Please look for the proposal and vote. Its in our best interest to make vote for it, it will take those who cant drive any longer off the roads and prevent those who arent ready to drive from getting behind a machine that kills. M.O.S.S. proposal.

It's better if you post it here.

We tend to think this is not an issue worthy of the United Nations' attention.

While traffic laws are a concern, this proposal is highly specific, and mostly pure common-sense for the nations it does cover.

Thus, we see no need for it to be passed as a global resolution.

We agree with the repersentative from Bizzare Space Fortress, and would like to point out that some nations don't even have cars.

This would only interest us if the same laws applied to horse and carts. Sometime, somewhere, someone, will realise that a world without these infernal machines is alot better!

this is great idea! only it should be a little stricter. There should be penalties for driving over the speed limit and for underage driving, in the form of a suspension of the driving licence

Speed limit? What's a speed limit?

A speed limit, in this context, is a legal limit placed on the amount of speed a vehicle can maintain on a particular stretch of road.

I can understand your confusion, though. My nation has no speed limits either and the whole idea seems odd.

Having incredibly high gas taxes, has resulted in very few citizens using automobiles in the Confederated City States. The taxes of course were instituted in response to a number of UN resolutions seeking to decrease the consumption of fossil fuels ... and they've had an excellent impact: air quality in the mountains of Mikitivity is excellent and we are not having too many elderly or young driving off the sides off cliffs anymore.

In any event, my government recommends placing high taxes on gasoline and using those taxes to improve your public transit. Our gas tax is used to subsidize Mikitivity Bahn, which now services many neighboring nations as well.

Cobdenia, whilst having very low income tax rates, does have proportional Pigovian taxation. Thus, road tax income=environmental protection, from automobiles, expenditure. Tobacco Tax revenue=Smoking related disease expenditure. Fast food tax revenue=Obesity related disease expenditure.

Why have you posted two topics on this?

If you can't be bothered to post it here and keep it to one topic, don't be surprised when most of us can't be bothered to support and call you on it.

Good heavens! You mean that nations actually limit the speed at which a person can drive?!?

<shudders in horror>

BTW, Texas Hotrodders are formally invited to send racing teams to the Allemande Automotive Racing Series, a Formula One Grand Prix competition. Any country called "Texas Hotrodders" would be enthusiastically embraced by racing fans across the country.

Oh, and Allemande is reknowned for its beer, too. But don't drink and drive...

For the record, there is no active proposal entitled "Makling the Roads safer". However, I did locate a proposal on page 5 of the list submitted by the representative from Bellanian, which I would ask the Reading Clerk to report at this time.

The Reading Clerk read as follows:
Making the Roads Safer

A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Bellanian

Description: In this day in age, the age limit of driving is at an all time low along with elderly people who cant walk getting behind the wheel of a car. It needs to stop before more lives are taken and here I propose a International Law affecting the way we drive today.

1) The Minimum Age for a Driving Permit should be 16 years old
1A) In order to obtain, the student needs to pass a three page written and 10 minute computerized test.
1B) There are 40 questions on the written. The Student needs to correctly answer 35 questions. If he or she fails the written, they fail completly and have to wait a thirty day period to re-take.
2) The Age for a Lisences should be 17 years old
2A) In order to obtain the student must pass a driving test on a specialized course planned out by the Federal Government
2B)There are five parts to the course: Reverse, Signals, Speed, K-point turns, and parking. There are a total of 50 points to pass with a complete. The student needs 30 points to pass the test. However if they dont pass the parking part of the test they fail completly. If he or she fails a thirty day period will be waited for a re-take.

3) Each person must uphold a permit for one year consisting of praticing night driving during a one month period and day time driving for a two month period.
4) If they choose not to get their permit, they must wait until the age of 18 to obtain one. In order to obtain one they must pass both a written and driving test.
5) At the age of Sixty Five, your lisences shall be invaild until you have completed a physical examination conducted by the doctor and DMV.
5A) It will consist of a hearing check, eye check, reflex check and another computerized test.
5B) You need to pass each check up along with getting 6/10 questions on the computer correct. If you fail the check up and pass the computer test, you fail completly and have to wait a thirty day period to re-take the test.
5C) If the person is pulled over with an invaild lisences, their lisences is suspended for a sixteen day period and fined $150.00.

Approvals: 12 (Xarvinia-Wurtemburg, The maker Iluvatar, Pine Ocean, Bijanian Utopia, Malachor IV, BLACKGRUE, Sinitsyn, Black Reading, Minor Sealand, Kamikastan, Son0ma, Tramformador)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 136 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Fri Apr 15 2005

This is far too specific. The age limits completely ignore the differences between societies and species, and setting the exact content and pass marks on tests for drivers in over 30,000 countries is not sensible.
