This is a urgent proposal that need your approval to get it on the queue as soon as possible, if you find anything you don't like in it, please post it here

That link is already out of date.

Cos I'm nice:

Nitrogen Oxide Emission Limit
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: Automobile Manufacturing
Proposed by: Nomansia

Description: The following proposal is simple but URGENT.

According to a report just submitted by Nomania's National Technology Development Laboratory, the planet will be finished up within 500 years, due to the uncontrolled Nitrogen Oxide (represented by its chemical formula NO in the following parts) emission.

NO is identified as a pollutant mainly because it will form chemical SMOG (SMoke-and-fOG) under sunlight. The chemical smog is a thick layer of brown gas in the sky. Despite affecting the appearence of the planet and lower the visibility, chemical SMOG is harmful due to the following reasons:

1. The thick layer prevent a large percentage of sun light (but not UV) from entering the earth. The lower of light intensity leads to a decrease in production of the agri-industry. In addition, it also lower the photosynthesis rate of the plants thus lower the efficiency of Carbon Dioxide (represented by its chemical formula CO2 in the following parts) absorbtion, which accelerate the global warming.

2. Similar to CO2, the layer trap heat inside the earth and give a similar effect of the green house effect.

3. NO dissolve in the watervapour in the air and cause acid rain.

4. A high concentration of NO give a chocking smell, as well as damaging the human respiratory system.

The NO emission is mainly due to the high tempreture of the car's internal combussion engine. Nitrogen gas in the air, originally a harmless inert gas, will combine with the oxygen gas in the air when the tempreture is high enough. The NO emission also increased as the use of cars is sharply increased in these years, since the tempreture of the car engines is high enough for the above reaction to take place.

According to the report, the recent average NO emission level is 13.4 tones per head, annually. We hope that it could be lowered to an acceptable level, 10 tones per head, which lengthen our planet's life for approximately 500 years.

To meet the above aim, we have to set up rules that limit the NO emission. We suggest that all UN member countries should set up laws in their country to supress the NO emittion, such as limmiting the cars manufacturing. We understand that this is not easy, so we decided there should be a grace period of 3 years. In the grace period, the NO emission level will be measured by the UN, but no actions will be taken. However, after the grace period, all UN member countries could not emit NO more than the maximum allowed level (10 tones * country popluation), otherwise, they should be given a penalty.

The penalty should be further discussed in the UN if this proposal is passed.

We know that this is difficult, but it's not impossible. Human is only one tiny creature on the planet and have no right to destroy the planet but protecting it. We sincerely hope that the situation can be diluted by passing this proposal.

Reguardlessly submitted,
Laputa environmental caring group

anyway....my quibbles.

1) You could have spellchecked it first! "Reguardlessly" is the most.....creative spelling I've seen in a long time.

2) The UN encompasses more sentients than just humanity.

But I like it, if only because it would improve Hirota's export of nuclear powered cars round the UN :p

Humanity isn't even the only species on its planet.

To be honest, I'm not sure if this is a problem. Please provide a link to a study or something on this issue so I can read it and get an idea about this.

it isnt a problem here. Nomansia, what planet are you on? there are many through out the UN, and by the sounds of this it is a more regional problem, maybe even a national one. also, there is the non-NSUN factor. this is all well and good, but meaningless if the majority of the nations causing NO pollution are outside the UN.

Am I the only one who thinks that statements like this one talking about NO pollution are kind of funny. Especially if you don't realize that their using the chemical symbols for nitrogen and oxygen.

yeah, didnt realise that. maybe we should refer to it from now on as NOx. OOC: this is what we called it when i was working in a mine site/process plant, because it was produced in one part of the process

sorry for that :p

as i suggested, refer to nitrogen oxide as NOx. also, as we have pointed out, as it stands, less than 1/3 of the total NS nations are members of the UN, and generaly the most poluting ones exist outside the UN because of previous resolutions. another point is which planet is this? there are many planets throughout the UN and could be applicable to only one planet

sorry for that :p
No need to apologize, beleive me after reading some of the proposals that get submitted I need a good laugh and that misunderstanding (that I admit I did briefly) gave me one.:)

ohhhhhhhhhhh

i finally realize that why some of you said this is "regional"

as i don't know there are many planets in the NS...
i used the word "planet"...

it should be the earth then.

hm.. though, we could not solve the problem completely by passing this...
but it helps.

any little actions that help to make the environment better worth a try, right?
and it in fact does not affect the AM industry much... as NO emission can be reduced greatly just by installing catalytic converters....

there is still a long way to go for "perfect"... but we can get closer to that by making the situation "better"

approve it, please. we really need that.
