School of UN Affairs Opens

The Lemurian University (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?c=15) announced their opening yesterday afternoon on the Lemurian Regional Forums. This university, led by Nations from all over the NationStates world, aims to help both new and old nations alike get more information about the inner workings of NationStates, and how to best enjoy your time within and outside of the game. Courses include Regional Defense and Intelligence (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=465), Forum Management (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=459), Roleplaying (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=467), Flagmaking (Vexiollology) (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=464), Invasion (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=466), Cartography (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=457), OOC Affairs (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=460), Recruiting (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=461), Statecraft (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=462), and UN Affairs (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showtopic=463).

Most important to this forum, obviously, is that of UN Affairs. The United Federation of Hersfold has volunteered (or as he claims, was recruited) for the Professorship of the course. During the course of the curriculum, The School of UN Affairs will cover the topic of National Soverignty and how it relates to the UN; Proposal Science, or how to write a proper proposal and then get it passed; Proposal Analysis, where actual proposals will be critiqued by the class and imporved upon; and Resolution Records and Analysis, where all 98 Resolutions will be discussed in detail and similarly critiqued.

Professor Hersfold welcomes all nations to this course, as he believes that it could be of great benefit to all nations, regardless of their current experience in NationStates, or their UN Membership status. Anyone wishing to apply to this course, or any course offered by the University, can click on the name of the course below. An e-mail address is required in order to register at the Lemurian Forums, but most courses offered do not have any pre-requisites.

Message:

While we are interested in your school, we find you lack a course that is crucial to UN affairs. That course is one that would cover resolution discussion, or how to deal with when the proposal is a resolution and the resulting discussions. Perhaps you could offer a course in that.

-Dictator Enigma

That should do.

If you have suggestions as to how I should teach my course, please tell them to me in a more direct manner. I'm the Dept. Head of UN Affairs, not Role-play.

Proposal Science, or how to write a proper proposal and then get it passed

This would include discussions about the proposal, before, during, and after it's passing.

I find that course to be inaccurate for that usage due to it being broad. As anyone can tell you, the rules of how to deal with it change the moment it comes up for a vote. You suddenly have to deal with a lot more people and most of them are not going to stick around that long. It's an effort that requires a hand with some knowledge of how to fight and be able to suddenly provide evidence when called for it that is required in those cases, as taking even an hour to find evidence could potentially bury you in posts.

Can I ask what the role of the "Statecraft" Professor is?
Hersfold

Mik, DLE, is it possible that you two can have a conversation instead of an argument? This is kind of getting silly.

Now, I asked this earlier and it was missed:

RomeW, I do apologize. I'll go ahead and answer you, mainly because I don't feel like reading through 10 pages of angry posts right now.

The Statecraft Professor would be responsible for setting up the course for statecraft and managing the class, which is, oddly enough, the largest right now, at 6 students.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what is meant by "Statecraft". I am assuming it is something to do with setting up your nation(s), answering issues, etc. and so forth. But I am really not sure. (Just saw your other post, sorry... Edit) As to how it relates to the UN, it really doesn't, that I know of. I was just mentioning what the rest of the courses were along with UN Affairs.

If you would like more information about the course, or if you're actually interested in applying after my rather crappy description, you can contact either Advanced Weaponry (www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=Advanced_Weaponry_2) (Delegate of Lemuria and Dean of the University) or Erastide (www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=Erastide) (Vice-Dean and Registrar). I'm sure those 6 students would be rather anxious to get a professor.

Thanks for your question, and again, apologies for the other two, whom, as Department Head, I must now deal with.

Well, considering I'm trying to write an overall Statecraft Guide for NS (because it's SORELY lacking in that area), I'll apply. Thank you Hersfold.

Apologies if I inadvertantly grabbed portions that belong here, particularly later posts - I missed the fact that there was a Page 2. If you can't repost 'em, quote 'em here. Sorry.

The following posts, while not entirely on topic, had information related to it. Please try to ignore the snideness and only deal with the quotes beneath them.

I would assume that is dealing with how to run a nation. Statecraft is, in the general usage I have seen, referring to government, specifically the operations of it.

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8612236&postcount=9
That's what I thought too, though I'm curious what the role entails with regards to the UN.

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8612423&postcount=11
Simple. You have to deal with how nations run their laws and interpretations of resolutions, while at the same time dealing with them trying to interact with each other. It's pretty much the center of the UN.

Hersfold's answer to my question has been completely erased. I'd like to know why.
Hersfold
05-04-2005, 02:50
 That's odd... it has vanished. I can't find it in the split thread either. Not even a "deleted" message.

Well, to answer it, I think statecraft has to do with setting up your nation(s) and answering issues. But as I'm not the professor, and as we don't even have one in the first place, I'm not at all sure.

Statecraft, as I see it, would not relate to the UN at all. It was listed in the ad above simply because it was one of the other classes offered. This thread is really an ad for the whole University, but since I happen to be the Dept. Head of UN Affairs, I had a slight bias. ;)

If you're interested in applying for the course, or for applying for the professorship, click on this link: (this one, here (clicky)) (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Lemuria/index.php?showforum=105) and find the Statecraft thread. I took you to the general forum just in case you want to apply elsewhere.

And thanks, Fris, for splitting that.

The Lemurian University is pleased to announce that it has (finally) found a volunteer to fill the post of Professor of Statecraft, Biyah. The new professor has announced that Statecraft courses will begin in approxomately one week's time.

The University is still in search of a Professor of Recruiting, and additional Professors of Role-play. If you believe you have sufficent knowledge about this subject to teach others about it, please apply for the post. Directions for applications are given here. I applied for that position as well, sending a TG of interest to the Lemurian Delegate just yesterday. What happened to me?

He says he hasn't heard from you.

Hey Hersfold,
RomeW does not sound familiar. Is he (you) sure he didn't contact Thel (Thel DRan, Professor of Cartography) instead? I checked my PM's and don't see anything, nor do I remember talking to anyone about Statecraft on AIM or YIM. Did he by chance have another nick that he might have gone by?

You probably know the answers to those questions better than I do.

He just TG'ed me telling me that he didn't notice my TG until now and says he'll discuss the matter with the founder. Other than that I have no updates.
