UN Delgagtes:

I'd appreciate your support for the following proposal, and thanks to all those who've already shown their support:

Potable Water for All
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: All Businesses
Proposed by: Rockin Coolness

Description: Be it resolved that all people of the world have the right to potable (drinking)water.

The world's fresh water supply is becoming increasingly limited due: to pollution, a global decrease in precipitaion levels and poor water management amongst the majority of nations.

Being that all human beings need water to survive, it is necessary to ensure that all people have access to potable water.

There may come a time (perhaps not too far in the future) when nations will experience drought, natural disasters and/or widespread pollution which, in effect, severley limit the access of potable water to its population(s). If and when such incidences occur, the world's nations might find themselves bidding on what water has never been called before, an essential commodity. It would be egregious for all of humankind if water would one day be sold 'by the barrel.'

As such, it is imperative that all nations adopt this resolution by instituting the following measure in their own NationState:

- A ministry, institute or department within their governments that will devise and manage mechanisms (desalinization; the 'filtering' of previously dirty water that has been contaminated by sewage, industrial pollution, naturally occuring microbes; etc.) to ensure there is a 'reservoir' or 'store' of enough potable water for the entirity of their nation's population for a period of three months. This 'reservoir' or 'store' of a three month supply of potable water is necessary should a nation be affected by severe drought, natural disaster that would affect the normal delivery system of fresh water to its citizenship and/or an industrial catastrophe which severely pollutes the aforementioned 'normal delivery system' of fresh water.

The costs of this resolution would be borne by each individual NationState's industry and tax payers; albeit a small price - for without potable water; there would be no one to work in industry, there would be no tax payers.

Please note that not all nations are Human, or even Carbon-based. Therefore, proposals which state such things as "necessary for Human life" may not get far. Thank you.

Please note the Rights for all Intelligence proposal, which would remove that legalistic barrier.

1 - I prefer not to drink water that has not been sanitized by the addition of alcohol.

ii. The Grand Duchy of YGSM is located on the tropical paradise of The Isle Of Lesbos (don't even think about joining; it's not your kind of place). We have no place to store 3 month's supply of drinking water, and currently import icebergs from our dear friend the Sultan of Vastiva to provide our daily needs.

c) [OOC]I've been to places in the RL world where potable water is delivered by the barrel. Best place in the world, IMNSHO - Labuanbajo, on the island of Flores in Indonesia. Potable water is delivered in barrels by boat in the dry season. There is nothing "egregious" about it. I wholeheartedly advise you to visit Labuanbajo, btw. Flores is a predominantly Christian island in Indonesia, but there is none of the religious strife you hear about in Ambon in the Spice Isles. At least, there wasn't any while I was there. A word to the wise: transportation is likely to be haphazard.
