Well, here's an idea...a World Languages Act
World Languages Act
Category: Human Rights or Education
Effect: Mild
What's in it:
-recognizes English (or whatever you may want to call this language) as the official working language (though not necessarily the sole) of the UN as a matter of convenience
-in order to preseve the various cultures of nations, efforts will be made to preserve all the languages of the world, especially ones nearing extinction
Well, it's a start. You guys can work on further ideas, exact wording...and so on of this proposal. I would be interested if anyone will actually sponsor this proposal (or what it will become) for me (seeing I am not currently a member of the UN, merely an observer).

Boilerplate, however you might want to note that there is no Education catagory currently.

Not the mention the fact the it probably borders on game mechanics.
-in order to preseve the various cultures of nations, efforts will be made to preserve all the languages of the world, especially ones nearing extinctionThis idea I like, one could even tie it into the current resolution up for voting should it pass (which looks likely).

As a diverse nation with many languages and distinct cultures, this most excellent proposal meets with the approval of Lord Atum.

I dislike paragraph two. I think the preservation of languages is rather pointless and inccredibly expensive, although I would have no problem with a resolution that disallows the suppression or illegalisation of languages within member states.
However, I feel that, if we are to adopt English, it needs to be English. Thus (for example) the first two words of this proposal would have to read
-recognises English &c...

I think the official language should be Quenya. It would make the debates so much more aestheticaly pleasing...
And proposals would just look so much prettier!

I think you'll find there is no such language as American. Quite clearly, everybody contributing to this discussion is speaking english, so, what more do we need?

Alright, since the debate about Item 1 (English as working language) is going nowhere, I guess we can delete that from the proposal. So, what do you guys think of Item 2? (Preservation of languages)
Oh yeah, if there are any more items you guys would like to add to the proposal, please say so...
