Description: In light of increasingly chaotic conditions in the world, action must be taken to protect trade.

To do this, we should require each UN member country to provide all cargo transports with a police or military escort. Furthermore, we should provide all cargo depots with military protection.

These measures would insure that international trade would continue unhindered in even the most turbulent of times, and the resulting necessary increase to police and military budgets would create a safer world for all.
Every ship, truck, train, and cargo van would be required to have a police or military escort? No.

I totally agree with protecting trade. But this proposed Trade Protection Act will do more harm than good. To enforce a mandatory security protection for every trade transport is costly and a huge mobilization of military forces in our seas and land.

First, nations who's primary focus is trade and with a less sizeable amount of armed forces will be coerced to send their military overseas and leave the country with less protection. Trade-focused countries will be susceptible to foreign aggression, especially from militaristic rogue nations.

Second, escorting trade transports with military security will neutralize possible trade income. Instead of using my trade income to other nation-building purposes, this proposal will divert my resources to mobilizing my armed forces everytime I trade with other countries.

And last, this proposal might be used to legitimize acts of aggression. I don't want some other country's battleships or attack tanks in my seas or on my soil while trading products. This trade protection act is promoting military aggression in disguise.

Well, that should pretty much destroy the economy of every UN nation.

I like it.

I hate to say this (OOC: no, I don't - not even close), but can the proposer please leave how the hell I trade up to me?! I mean, security's great and everything, but I don't feel that I need to be told exactly how many MPs I need on a transport of Kriovalian weapons and sex toys (occasionally mistaken for one another, usually tragically in either case). Please stop with the insane economy-obliterating proposals.
