Free contraception
Human Rights/Significant
Hellan

Description: Recognise the rights to control our fertility and to engage in sexual acts as described by previous resolutions.

To support this we propose that throughout U.N. member nations condoms and the combined contraceptive pill should be freely availible, in order to -
-prevent unwanted or underage pregnancies or children whose parents cannot care for them.
-prevent the spread of sexualy transmitted diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS.

Give me break, you telegrammed me while I was at work.

And as to why I hadn't approved it beforehand, I didn't feel that it was worth the UN's consideration.

Ah...so the UN is going to make my nation give away contraception. What if we are wanting to encourage population growth? :(

When I first read through this, I thought it was factually incorrect, saying that the pill could protect against STD's. I missed the mention of condoms initially. It might be better to reorganize it and explain the benefits of each (shortly) instead.

UN member nations will provide condoms and contraceptive pills free of charge in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies and decrease the need for abortion. Additionally, by providing free condoms, the spread of STD's will be slowed, improving the health of citizens within UN member nations.

Or something like that. And perhaps add in a clause about how member nations cannot keep records of who all takes these free methods of contraception? Less violation of privacy and stuff - then again, that probably is the preferred method of dispensing in some nations.

Then again, since the proposing nation isn't on the boards (yet), my suggestions are relatively pointless. But still ...

I may be wrong but i think this fellow is suggesting that the requirement for contraception to the individual is negated if one doesnt hang around to support the mother.

For Shame! :(

AP cannot support this. Perhaps for poverty stricken adults, but for the entire population it is a bit much.

How will the NSUN be able to provide such service? Who will provide NSUN contraceptives?

This proposal is vague and could possibly be coercive in nature. The Armed Republic of the NeoCon Hubris will not be willing to participate any legal move to directly or indirectly subsidize the promotion of contraceptives that could possibly give rise to moral and social irresponsibility.

We should not allow the NSUN to be a welfare organization for sexually irresponsible people. Government issued contraceptives should be left to indivudual nations alone.

Description: Recognise the rights to control our fertility and to engage in sexual acts as described by previous resolutions.

Well, first government is incapable of engaging in sexual acts. Persons involved in government, however, are, which leads to the use of our fertility in the resolution. Such a term invokes individual rights. It is an individual right to engage in sexual acts that a government must recognize, not provide for. Furthermore, an individual or individuals can engage in sexual acts and control their fertility without any government subsidy.

However, recognizing that there are classes of citizens that are not fully informed on the subject or financially capable of taking the necessary precautions, we have government programs to help.

Using averages, as the fertile and sexually active people of AP differ as do the products: Let us say the Contraceptive Pill and a weeks worth of condoms are at equal cost, approximately six crags (dollars) for a weeks supply.

According to our fertile and sexually active Big Brother census AP has 1.675 Billion People good to go. Multiply that by 6 (the cost of a weeks supply) and 52 (weeks in an AP year), guess what you get: 5.226x10^11 Crags being spent per year on condoms and birth control. (522 billion)

Our money would be better spent on research into a cure for AIDs, DLE battlecraft, and programs for areas where AIDs and underage pregnancy is a problem and financial need exists.

Encouraging or discouraging, in either case, this proposal needs to really address what this may do to government's ability to control population growth. As it stands this proposal is overlooking too many complex issues (i.e. it is too short), and the Confederated City States of Mikitivity would likely vote against this resolution.

Oh. This proposal didn't expire; it was deleted.

Vague. If you mean "free" as in "free speech", then this is "Human Rights" and should be worded to indicate that contraception is legal in all UN member nations. If you mean "free" as in "free beer", then this is "Social Justice" because the UN member nations are going to be footing the bill for this.
