Hi,

May I ask that as many delegates please take a look at my proposal "Disabled People's Act" and approve it (if you want...)

I know it is poorly written. I had thought of it at the spur of the moment and had just written it right then then submitted it. It is currently on page 16.

Another M.O.S.S. proposal. Could you please post the text here so us lazy delegates (and those of us on dial-up) don't have to go looking for it.

"Description: In today's world not all establishments are handicapped acessible and should be. This proposal will make it illegal for any establishment in a UN member nation to not be handicapped acessible.

You must follow these terms:
1. All establishments have atleast two ramps at the curb
2. Your establishment must have handicapped accessible doorways, and ones that disabled people can easily open
3. If your establishment has an upper level you must have atleast one elevator.

If these rules are broken you can be fined up to $500"

a ridiculous proposal, some things simply cannot be made accessible for disabled people, like lots of theme park entertainment rides.

No where in that proposal did it talk about theme parks. Simply establishments, and many disabled people do not need special accessible rides. They can usually get on them just fine.

Good intent, not so sure about 'establishment'. Perhaps you should define it. In Canadian "slang" an establishment is a bar or place that serves liquor.

You must follow these terms:
1. All establishments have atleast two ramps at the curb

This is too specific. You should generalize it to say "every establishment must have a wheel chair accessable entrance"

2. Your establishment must have handicapped accessible doorways, and ones that disabled people can easily open

If you changed the 1. to what I suggested, this would be covered already - but perhaps you should put "all UN nations who have the technology to create a door opening system will be required to install the system into the wheel chair accessable entrance."

3. If your establishment has an upper level you must have atleast one elevator.

Hmm... too specific. Some nations might not have the technology. Perhaps "all establishments who have upper levels must provide a wheel chair accessable method to each additional level."

If these rules are broken you can be fined up to $500"

No probs here.

I like the intent, and I would support this if it were re-written to generalize it a bit more, and define 'establishment'.

The very term "handicapped" indicates that some ability/activity is not accessible--or only through extreme exertion.

Sounds like you need to define "establishments."

Thank you for the suggestions. I didn't expect it to pass the first try. As I said, it was a spur of the moment thing. Thanks again.

As a relatively new member of the game and forums myself I have found that the members here, although sometimes forgetting that they too were once newbies, are so very helpful in getting a good proposal to the floor.

Your proposal is a good one but needs further researching and form. Take heed of the suggestions of the members as they can and will make a difference between getting your proposal approved and ultimately enacted.

For my own part i think you should add that every new premises as of and from a particular date should have wheelchair access and a ground level toilet. this covers all new homes as well as businesses and ensures for the dissabilities of old age as well as existing physical dissabilities.

Dont lose heart, redraft a new proposal and post it here in the forums. :)

I could not support this, though with good intentions it would hurt small businesses greatly.

Thank you for the kind words, Venerable libertarians.

Vatter, it could indeed hurt small business, but every person should be able to enter a building if they need to. What if someone couldn't go pay their insurance because the entrance to the office was elevated? Or if someone wanted to go to his/her favorite donut shop, but couldn't because the curb was too high? Or wanted to simply go rent a movie, but the door was too heavy, or too awkward to open? In these times, it should be mandatory that establishments of all kinds are handicapped friendly.
