If you want to talk about a proposal you submitted, it's generally appreciated if you cut and paste a copy of it to the forum as well.
I'll put a copy here with my post.

Category: Free Trade
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Damaia

Description: Whereas the United Nations include nations that uphold fairness and justice;

Whereas trade wholesalers, retailers, and producers must be committed to providing fair wages and good employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged artisans and farmers worldwide;

The United Nations must unite to directly link low-income producers with consumer markets and educate consumers about the importance of purchasing fairly traded products which support living wages and safe and healthy conditions for workers in the developing world.

The United Nations must also act as a clearinghouse for information on fair trade and provide resources and networking opportunities for its members. By adhering to social criteria and environmental principles, all Nations foster a more equitable and sustainable system of production and trade that benefits people and their communities, as well as the quality of all products.

Here's a true system of fair trade:

Unless you can give me something I cannot produce that will benefit my nation, I won't trade with you. All I export are minerals and cash.

The above system is applied to everyone, UN and nonmember alike.

Why MUST they be committed to this? I would really appreciate it if you looked more into:
a) why we should adhere to a fair trade over a free trade system
b) ways in which this would be implements/ changes that would have to be made.

It would have to be a very strong argument that would convince me, Gwenstefani is a very pro-free trade nation.

We, at Damaia, firmly defend that fair trade is the only path for a more free and capable system of commerce. Please think: if all of the 3rd world farmers get less and less conditions to perform their jobs, it's easy for them to stop and turn to more lucrative areas. Now, if that happens, primary sector activities will always be under-rated or a business for 2 or 3 big-ones - that, in search for economies of scale, will not hesitate to relegate public health to a lower level of importance.

Now, corporations aren't evil and they can benefit from this measure, as they'll show how they can have a social importance in today's world. Social welfare must begin where our system is based - on private initiative. And the government, well, the government should create the rules for that.

Besides, of course, of the solidarity shown on this movement.

Hope this spices up the debate

We agree.

Vastiva will gladly buy up economically-disadvantaged farmers, leaving them on their land to crop as they will with 50% of the land, and as we direct with the other 50%. We will guarantee sale of at least 50% of overall crops (our choice), at our market value or higher, via our brokers, and leave the rest for the farmer to profit with as they choose. We will also guarantee at least break-even profit for the farmers.

Vastiva already supports the arts - over 150 billion PC per year* is spent on supporting and encouraging artists to continue their trade (this does not include museums and the like, only direct support of artisans).

We shall watch this proposal with interest, and will gladly wait for it to encourage some sort of action.
