No Tobacco Use in Childcare
A resolution to restrict civil freedoms in the interest of moral decency.
Category: Moral Decency
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Loratana
Description: New scientific studies have proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that secondhand smoke adversely affects the mental development of children, and the more smoke inhaled, the worse the damage.
Therefore, let it be resolved that tobacco use is banned in child-care facilities, both public and private. Let it also be resolved that the member nations of this august organization are required to create government agencies, either as new departments or as additions to existing child-services departments, that regulate and license said child-care facilities, and a multinational group to oversee said departments.
May the light of peace and health shine on the world
Overall, I think it's pretty good. I'm not sure I'd consider this ban to be "strong" in terms of its effects, as it's limited to one particular place, though.
I like the proposal, but it is neither "strong" nor a "moral decency" proposal.
More like "Recreational Drug Use" and "outlaw".

Fass, I asked weeks ago what category it should be in. since it only affects one drug in limited areas, everyone told me it was moral decency.
also, since it creates organizations, both national and international, I believe that it's a "strong" proposal.
I think you should remain on the subject of non-smoking in childcare facilities instead of creating a regulatory group for these childcare facilities.
Perhaps you could just add a clause saying that any childcare facility liscening organizations should take this new law into effect when inspecting.

And what of the countries that do not have child-care licensing agencies? I guess that the international group is a bit severe, but I like to push the limits of the power I'm given, if I can make the world a better place by doing so.

The Oppressed Peoples of Asshelmetta have just launched our full compliment of nuclear missiles at the perfidious "Democratic States" of Loratana.
We call upon all our allies to join in the bombardment and invasion of this soon-to-be former tyranny.

If you don't like it, just don't vote for it and it'll be gone within a week. I have to warn you, though, Asshelmetta, that I'll just revise it and add alcohol to the banned list if it fails (since that's what the real-life law is in Illinois.) Then maybe you'll notice that your missiles never left their silos. Don't you love sabotaging a country that has no discernable justice system?

My missiles weren't in silos, dead woman.

p.s. her nation was destroyed over this pernicious lie.

I am not so sure this should be a UN issue. Perhaps a national issue for your and other nations governmental health departments. Perhaps you should change your proposal to change an existing Human rights resolution by adding and amending that all children have the right to grow in a healthy and safe environment or some such.
Its a noble and just idea, but i recon not the concern of the UN.

EXCUSE ME YOU LITTLE PRICK (don't mean you, venerable libertarians), but maybe you need to look for a hobby other than flaming people who want to make the world a healthier place at the expense of human rights. Maybe you should think with your brain and not with your ***, Asshelmetta. I don't play NS to have perfect stats like some people. I play to see how my beliefs affect a nation and a world. Also, I'm a guy, I'm not dead, my nation's still around, and I'm going to get consensus without you, A.
Prove to me I'm wrong and I won't resubmit, but for proof I'm right, take a look at Science News a while ago.

That's way over the line, Loratana. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and not give you a formal warning over this, but I don't want to see this level of escalation again.
The Oppressed Peoples of Asshelmetta have just launched our full compliment of nuclear missiles at the perfidious "Democratic States" of Loratana.
Asshelmeta, we don't regulate roleplay, but I personally find that to be a ridiculously disproportionate response to the comments here. It's dangerously close to flamebaiting. Cut it out.

Lolololol, sorry, I know you got into trouble for that, but I just found your (Asshelmetta's) on this thread hilarious. No offence either Loratana.

What child care center would allow smoking around the children in the first place? I respect the idea and the feeling behind this proposal but I find it wholly unneccessary. Plus, it is more of a state issue than U.N. issue. For this reason, I will not be adding my approval.
However, you're welcome to join my region and endorse me. :)

Lord Evif glances at a note he has just received from the Foreign Ministry. He gets up and walks over to the desk of the delegate from Asshelmetta.
"I just wanted to let you know that some of us represent rather huge nations that could easily reduce your smaller nation to a radioactive desert. It's completely against Goobergunchian policy to do so, of course, but there are others around that are far less kind. Just a friendly heads-up."

Unfortunately, I've already been asked once on this thread to tone it down.
You would have to find my nation to destroy it, right?
I'll just have to make my island free-floating, then.

Oh, so that's where I can find this mysterious study!
1) RL examples are illegal. I shall petition the mods for this proposal's deletion if the offending clause is not removed.
2) OOC: I'm not about to go through every Science News from "a while ago" to see whether you're right.

I subscribed to Science News for a number of years, but its articles became so politically biased in some areas I couldn't bring myslef to read it.
I mean, how many cover stories on the effects of global warming on frogs can one weekly have in a year?
Science News publishes without complete peer review, which makes it vulnerable to biased studies. It also means the information gets out quicker, and that's a good thing. But it is vulnerable to biased and politicized studies.

1. by a while ago, i mean within the past month. (just to give a time frame)
2. even though what i gave for proof that what I'm saying is true is a rl example, I didn't name any study in particular in my proposal, so it could have been done by my nation or by Asshelmetta, or by anyone.
3. I'm not about to apologize for what I've said and done, past, present and, future. I am temperamental and very very blunt, both here and in rl.

2. So now you're claiming information from studies without citing them? Hardly a practice that merits an appearance in a UN proposal.
3. Ah, diplomacy. Don'tcha love it?

Nurseries are places where uncaring parents dump their kids because they don't want to shoulder the responsibility of looking after the brats themselves. Why should anyone else bother about these unwanted kids if their own parents don't?
Change your proposal to, "Anyone dumping their kids in a nursery should be sterilised immediately in a smoke-filled clinic", and you have my support.
