I would appreciate the support of any UN Delegate.

EVERY CHILD GETS A LOLIPOP ACT
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: United Libertaria

Description: EVERY CHILD GETS A LOLLIPOP ACT: AN INITIATIVE TO PROVIDE HOPE AND FURTHER THE GOALS OF THE UNITED NATIONS.

RESOLVED: The world would be a better place if children were happier and nothing makes a child happier than candy.

PROPOSAL: Once a day, all governments currently signatories to the United Nations will distribute, to all children under the age of 12, a delicious lollipop (flavor to be determined by individual national preference). Each lollipop will be wrapped in the colors (blue & white) of the United Nations and will bear the logo of the UN. Inside each wrapper will be sanctioned messages promoting the ideals of the United Nations (democracy, human rights, etc) as well as positive messages about fellow nations of the UN. The ink used in print will also facilitate subliminal coding.

DESIRED RESULT: Positive reinforcement. By associating a daily positive act with the United Nations and its highest ideals, each child will reach the age of 12 with a more positive outlook on the world at large and will gain an understanding of foreign cultures and their people. This will foster our ideals in an upbeat and happy manner. Also, the daily ritual of positivism will foster a more peaceful and tranquil world, providing a preventative step towrds the curbing of global crime rates as a side effect.

IMPLEMENTATION: All nations will be required to pay for this initiative, however the secondary health care costs associated with possible dental problems as well as diabetic-related disease, will be offset by the United Nations. Any diagnosed diabetics must be accomodated with an aspertamine alternative, exempting these individuals from health coverage cost by the United Nations.

Approvals: 0

Status: Lacking Support (requires 146 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Mon Feb 14 2005

Ok, so there are starving people around the world, and obesity is a major problem in many other nations, and you're proposing that we spend huge amounts of money on stuffing our children's mouths with sugar.

You mention "the ideals of the United Nations", but we have no set ideals. The NSUN has no charter and no stated ideals. It simply does whatever it's members vote for.

You also say that dental hygience costs will be offset by the UN, but this money would ultimately come from member nations anyway.

Finally, you also seem to be talking about brainwashing of our children - "The ink used in print will also facilitate subliminal coding"?! What is this supposed to mean? And didn't we ban subliminal advertising?

When I saw the title of this resolution I thought it was going to be nothing more than a silly little resolution about giving kiddies sweeties.

And then I noticed it was actually quite sinister... Political advertising in the form of candy, brainwashing kids for much of their life...

And as for this clause:
"The world would be a better place if children were happier and nothing makes a child happier than candy"

Just wrong. In the poorest of countries, kids would probably prefer clean drinking water, food, shelter, their eyesight, not to be dying of diarohhea or any other easily curable disease.
