Resolution for Retirement
A resolution to reduce income inequality and increase basic welfare.

Category: Social Justice
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Kervoskia

Description: This is a resolutions for those countries whose economy is Good or better to pay the senior citizens, age 60 or over, of their populations to receive a check of no less than 500 (of whatever currency is used) a month. The senior citizens have worked hard and deserve something for their lifetime of hard work. I propose this so we may help them live the rest of their lives without the fear of wondering about income. This will give them something to fall back on. The people will contribute to this fund so that it will have enough money to finance itself.

I feel that this will help the elderly live the rest of their lives with some economic security. If you wish to support it is is on page 25 of UN proposals.

1) Currency valuations vary wildly. 500 Teeth/month in Plumdanglia wouldn't be enough to buy a hamburger (to cite a country in my region).

ii. Aging also varies widely among different races. There are nationstates here with elves and nationstates with space aliens.

C - If your government hasn't destroyed the social structure of the extended family, this shouldn't be a problem.

:: Why should I have to wait until I'm too old to really enjoy it? Gimme the money NOW, and I'll work hard when I'm 70. Promise.

So I'm supposed to pay my citizens nearly $1000 a month?

Also, I have certain citizens who will be drawing money from this for the next few centuries due to a certain uniqueness of them. Nor am I alone in that.

The senior citizens have worked hard and deserve something for their lifetime of hard work. I propose this so we may help them live the rest of their lives without the fear of wondering about income. This will give them something to fall back on. The people will contribute to this fund so that it will have enough money to finance itself.

If they worked hard for their money, they have saved over for retirement and don't need government help. If they don't, they didn't work hard enough. That is the view of DLE's society.

Besides, the system you describe is notorious for being a failure.

I feel that this will help the elderly live the rest of their lives with some economic security. If you wish to support it is is on page 25 of UN proposals.

It won't stay there. And you should know my position by now.

Vastiva is not a "senior-citizen sitter" either.

We have addressed this in a different manner, see no reason to change or alter our course, and would find the additional drain on the economy annoying.

While this proposal appears to be worthy of some debate and almost certainly similar acts are in place in many nation states we do not consider that the UN should interfere with any more of their social welfare laws.

Not all people "work hard all their lives" some people are capitilists that never do a stroke and amass huge fortunes for their very early retirement, as well as earning excessive cash after the age of 60. Are the young workers supposed to contribute their hard earned pennies to support people with more than enough income. The old already outnumber the young in many nations and the balance shifts daily towards the elders with declining birth rates. How can any nation seriously consider placing such a future burden on their economy?

Why are people retiring? If they're alive, they can work. They can stuff envelopes can't they?

Work in itself should be its own reward. Therefore people dont have to wait for retirement as a reward. Also retirement will encourage senility as old people wont be using their brains as much in their state of laziness. The severity of the economic drawbacks of this proposal means, if it is enacted, that it will have to be abandoned anyway in a few decades .

Regardless of whether or not your economy is good, 500 of whatever currency a month is an absolutely worthless number. Some nations deal in the tails of their national animal. Some deal in 12 ton bricks. Pojonia uses the ethereal doubloon, at the moment, which is supposedly worth the approximate net value of Russia. Some nations will see this, raise inflation rates, and basically not have to pay senior citizens anything because 500 of their currency is worth approximately a lollipop.

As to the social welfare issue, it doesn't matter. The proposal is quite flawed and shouldn't pass regardless of the ideal. Don't submit it for this exact reason.

If I ignore the fact that giving 500 Jamjam's to one elderly person a couple times will make them the richest person in Jeianga, I don't think you can restrict a proposal to just nation's that has their economy at 'Good' or better. It changes all the time.

I think that Retirement pensions should be left up to the individual nation.

I noticed that. I see the fallacy in my proposal. I retract my statements as I can see that they are full of holes and are not clear and could possibly harm the economy of others. I did not take into account inflation and other aspect of the economies. I sincerely apologize for this proposal, as I know intentions are meaningless unless attached to a reasonable plan. Please accept our apologies.

don't be all like that!

i think this is something better handled at the national level, but lots of people in nationstates probably disagree with me.

rewrite the proposal without specific ages and dollar amounts. make it so nations have some latitude in implementation specifics.
