Define "indecent materials". Also, explain how stating that "If we want a cleaner, and more decent world for not only our kids, but kids all around the world, we must abolish the production and distribution of indecent materials." would do anything? This proposal has no teeth.

Well, thank you. This gives me a chance to go deeper into this subject. Indecent materials involve poronographic materials that are distributed on the internet, the bookstores, videostores and expecially the strip in Vegas. Just producing these materials is offensive enough, but actually distributing these materials, which is well in the reach of the children of the world. This brings me to my next point. A clean and decent enviroment will produce moral and well-adjuted children. If we continue these materials to be distributed and produced, we will be directly ruining the lives of our kids, future generations and the world.

I afraid that you may have to define "indecent" within the actual text of the proposal before you get much support. Otherwise, the proposal may even be used to ban portions of religious texts (on the claim that some passages are "indecent").

Regardless of what you define indecent as, I will never support this proposal. It has too much potential for abuse and is directly in defiance of what many consider the most basic of civil freedoms, the freedom of expression.

As the resolution stands, I don't think protecting our childrens eyes really functions as anything more than a way to tug at our heartstrings and enforce completely illogical legislation. In regards to censorship, Pojonias citizens (children included) have humbly requested that you take a flying ***. Three letter swear words, the most indecent of them all, are our specialty and we won't be censoring them any time soon. Except in forums when we don't want to be kicked out ;) .

From a more pragmatic and reasonable argumentation, this proposal would interfere with a good portion of the issues that we are presented in nationstates, such as the ones involving public SM, public nudity, and depending on how strict the definition is a large variety of other issues involving freedom of expression. I'm fairly certain a proposal cannot interfere with game mechanics, so it's useless anyways. Finally, no matter the definition it is extremely ambiguous, informal, and completely unsuited for legislation as it would make the U.N. look rather silly to pass a single sentence of law that covers so much ground.

Upon reading your responses, I have realized that proposing this subject was utterly unfounded on my part. I therefore agree with each of you and, before propsong any further, will study past proposal and become more familiar with the way the Un works. I thank you all.

*shocked* I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.

Sorry, I just realized that the UN must be used for good and strong resolutions and this was just not one of those.

I'm not degrading you. In fact, my respect for you has skyrocketed. It's almost impossible nowadays to find a delegate who will admit that their original ideas were misplaced. Best wishes in the future.

:) Well done! As Nargopia says, it's great to see members who are willing to do this. If you want to write more proposals, I suggest reading this guide, which has been helpful to me in the past: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=342360

We must NOT support this proposal. Our major industry is Book Publishing - do you have any idea how much income comes from publishing "banned" books and making them available by various means?
