WARNING : Creator thought some people may find this funny. But maybe not ...
Right, a short while back with the move to Jolt I had an idea that the U.N. forum needs some rules of its own to be laid down in black and white, with the odd bit of fancy colour to keep attention focused on them as opposed to the latest Paris Hilton file you've got happening in the other active window.
And after all, some of the other forums have them.
( Rules, not Paris Hilton ... General is not that bad yet I hope, but then again I think " Abandon all hope, ye who often post here in " applies there any way so take that with a grain of salt if you wish )
And lets face it, not many ... " vocal " people seem all that smart online, so we can only hope they'd at least read these facts of U.N. Forum Life before they assume they are Jack of All Posts as opposed to the reality :
They are the Know Jack All About Rules.
Might I add the contents of this post may not be officially enforced or officially endorsed at time of this posting, they are a product of my over active imagination, fed by my having too much free time and almost constant computer and net acess. So don't say I did not warn you.
Here We Go :
The U.N. Forum is " Where UN members debate how to improve the world, one resolution at a time. " and as such has a few rules.
Normal forum rules apply, in that all posters must be at least civil to one another, and take note of the following.
By posting in here you will agree to :
NOT post flame or other-wise insults.
NOT troll or other-wise flame / insult bait others.
NOT spam up a thread or the forum itself.
NOT link to material not appropriate for view by minors or which is other-wise inappropriate.
Like those " goat ( plural form + e ) ", " tub - girl " or pictures of dead people such asthe more socially inept of the internet seem to propogate all over the place.
You will also agree to :
COMPLY with the terms and conditions of this site.
COMPLY with the will and decisions of the Game and Forum Moderators.
Not that you can't as they can forum ban you for the rest of time, or do things to your nation account which are some what like sticking it a sack, beating it with sticks, then tossing said sack and said contents into a truck to be driven off into the night and away, never to be seen or heard from again, despite what the torn and blood splatted letters from Siberia may hint at.
COMPLY with the idea that all posters will maintain an air of civility and if worst comes to worst, agree to disagree on matters, " no matter how ... silly ... the other guy / girl is " ...
Further-more, this Forum board is a little special in that it has some specific rules to match its purpose. As above, this is " Where UN members debate how to improve the world, one resolution at a time. ", so consequently,
The U.N. Forum Specific Rules :
1) The U.N. Forum is where Nation States Players come together to debate material in or before the voting body of the Nation States United Nations. Both members of the U.N. and non-members are welcome. While here, you are expected to :
* Attack the topic of debate, not the person debating an view point which is different to yours.
* Be polite. Can't stress this enough. You'll find people will accept or at least recognise your views a great much easier then if they don't think your a psycho who wants them dead. This extends to no telegramming the nation account to " tell them what you think of them " because of their view point being so much ... different ... to yours.
* Be honest. Enough said, as its expected in most forums, its only nice after all. Might I add, this does extend beyond " what your wearing " but does allow for creativity, so you had better be wearing something.
( And none of that either ! )
* Keep on topic. An time tested example of this is ust because the " Real Life " American Constitution says " A " is " A " and not " B " does not mean we want at least 50 or more blatantly polarised and technically non-informative paragraphs on it when it has nothing to do with the proposal except both the proposal or matter in question and a part of the " constitution " ( or other source ) both mention " A " and " B " but the N.S.U.N. wants " A " to be " B ".
Especially when there is a clear " And because you U.N. people want " A " as " B " your all going to burn in hell, fuckers " trend to it. Some of us already manage with Australian summers, thank you very much.
* Another point is use the right language, as above, calling some one a " fucker " here will probably get you warned or punished for flaming / insulting or flame-baiting / insult baiting, even. While some hard words can be distributed, be very, very, very careful, about how you go about doing so.
2) - SPECIFIC THREAD TOPIC RULES -
In order to keep this Forum useful, there are some guides as to what exactly you can post here with-out getting it moved to another forum, or locked so as no one can reply and it quietly dies. So for starters :
* THIS FORUM IS MAINLY FOR DISCUSSION AND DEBATE ON U.N. PROPOSALS. I really cannot stress that enough. When you write a proposal, you should post it here before you put it into the proposal list for endorsing. This allows others to read your work and give you feed back, also helps catch spelling and grammar errors. For your sake and for every-one else in the U.N. if your proposal becomes a resolution, make sure you try it out here first before you move along with it. People might tend to be a bit harsh about things you have written but in the long term its a good investment of your time and tears.
It also grants your proposal some free " air time " so more delegates and eventually members might hear / read about it. And if members read about it, they might ask their delegates about it, and boom, you get more votes. That is after all a very important part, is marketing.
Just ask Max Barry.
3) ROLE PLAY : Not really allowed here. Well, it is, and it is not.
You want to R.P. a bunch of U.N. nations storming your country ? Okay. GO AWAY AND DO IT IN International Incidents OR Nation States Forums, PLEASE.
As noted already, this forum is for Nation States United Nations Proposal, Resolution and such discussion related to those two things. There are two, read that again, TWO forums for Role Play. This not the place for it. If you really want a little U.N. role play, there is the Strangers Bar sticky near the top of the page. Try that, if you like.
* IC v.s. OCC : Where you might see some Role Play elements is in replies to threads ... while a little IC or " In Character " posting is allowed, its not overly recommended in a debate on potential or past U.N. law.
For example, we really don't care if your the Grand and Mighty Purple People Eating Monkey Haired Heir to The Cast Iron and Plastic ( 100 % Recycled Material ) Throne of The Planetoid of Eternally Dimmed Green Rubber Duckies, Muncher of Moons and Pooper of Asteroids ! And this proposal with effect your harvesting of the royal crops of dark things which fly with many wings ! ( text size almost breaking page format while in ALL CAPS and using several colours )
We want you to get to the bloody point and actually contribute to the debate already. State who you are or who you represent and why you agree or disagree, don’t glue us in place till our eyes bleed with paragraph upon paragraph of national description, because even if you do make a really good point at the end, your bound to look up from the page your reading to us from IC and realise we’ve all left the room and hope you’ll think to turn the lights out.
( Save power, hink of the trees. The U.N. sodding has ... )
As such, try to stay in " Out of Character " posting for your argument, and if you do use IC, keep it low key and to the point of your contribution.
Example : “Yes, I am the Representative of Komokom, and I stand before you today to air the plight of one strata of society we more often then not do not think of nor care for as we should globally speaking, I feel that while Komokom itself and others may clothe feed and shelter the deprived of our nation and others, we feel it is high time for all member nations to unite together and do so, so that we may … “
This good, little bit of IC and a rocking good speech, if I do say so myself.
Example : “ I AM KING BOBBER- DOBBER OF @@ NAME @@ AND I SAY SCREW THE POOR, IN MY NATION WE ABIDE BY THE ( Insert random un-related RL U.S.A. Constitutional Reference, something about religion taught in school, and your favourite colour ) SO YEAH, AND MY FRIEND Grand and Mighty Purple People Eating Monkey Haired Heir to The Cast Iron and Plastic ( 100 % Recycled Material ) Throne of The Planetoid of Eternally Dimmed Green Rubber Duckies, Muncher of Moons and Pooper of Asteroids ! AGREES WITH ME TOO ! SO SCREW THE U.N. I’M RIGHT ! “

* Other Post Topics : While you can of course post a new thread on a U.N. related matter, if you do make one, make sure sure it is relevant, a debate on the validity of U.N. law over-ruling National Law might be okay, but a debate on " Hey, I say the game should change so we can not " suffer " under " U.N. Nazis " and their " restrictions " is not. It will only be locked or deleted. Either because it violates the game mechanics ( Wants the game reprogrammed which is not going to happen ) or is simply not worth the time it takes to do anything else but lock it and give a 1 odd sentance reply as to why its been locked or moved else where.
Nor is yet another " down with the U.N. " thread going to " go down " well. If you don't like the U.N. no one is forcing you to stay and clog up its forum with the " bitch bitch, whine whine, do as we say " method of getting things done.
* Multiple / Duplicate Threads : Just Don't. If there is already a thread debating the proposal at vote or a proposal in que, DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER ONE. It will only be locked or deleted.
