UN Resolution: Leagalization for a Price

By legalization, this implies that the nations that legalize it would thus have authority over where it is made and how it is destributed. The now legalized substances will thus be aquired over the counter at a drug store or similar place of sale and the price for such substances made fairly cheap. But the catch is the high sales tax implemented on its sale. This high tax will then go towards the rehabilitation of such said individuals in the event of there irresponsibility. This tax thus takes the place of the the taxes acquired by the nation from individuals who choose not to do this and replaces it with the tax acquired from the individuals that purchase the substance.

What do you guys think about his. If you like it go to the un and help get it into play.

There's a sticky for how to write a proposal. *READ IT*

After doing that perhaps you'd like to re-write that before it's bashed on?

Interesting... particularly interesting that the proposal doesn't say what it is being legalised. Drugs? Guns? Prostitution? Pornography? What on earth is this proposal even about?

Let's see if I can make some sense out of it:

1) It doesn't actually legalize, but allows nations to legalize. What is not specified.

2) It places a direct tax on the people who buy the items. Illegal.

3) There really is nothing else in the proposal.

I'm going to make a few assumtions based on the way Shirenmas post was written. This is a proposition to make all drugs legal, but it would stipulate that they are regulated at the national level. It would also stipulate that the nation place strong taxes on the sale of the drugs that are being legalized to attempt to discourage their use and to take the burden of paying for rehabilitation off of the shoulders of people who don't use them. It is my hope that Shirenma wanted suggestions on the proposal before actually writing it and that wasn't the actual proposal.

Now for my thoughts. As long as the resolution set up minimum requirements on the regulations and taxation of the drugs, it would most likely reduce crime in many UN nations as there would be less profit in selling drugs illegally.
On the other hand, this would take the choice away from nations on the issue for the most part. It would still be feasible to tax the drugs to death if they wanted to though. Most people would not be able to regularly afford most drugs at current street prices if a 300% tax was added. I still don't think I'd support it as this subject is something that should be left up to the nation.
Another possible proposal that I belive would have a better chance of passing would be to set up minimum regulations on drugs for nations where they are legal, but dosn't actually make illegal drugs legal.
