Well, I hope I can gather support for this proposal. I tried a similar one and didn't post here. I hope this will have an impact.

This is the info:
Emmissions Reduction
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: All Businesses
Proposed by: Icitabob

Description: Henceforth, the United Nations:

RECOGNIZES that coal and nuclear generators are a leading cause for envrionmental harm, and that the sole use of these is a practice forbidden, unless the below committee makes an exception.

RECOMMENDS that a committe be created with specialists working in the field of engineering, physics, and environmental ethics in order to preside over all decisions and disputes regarding this resolution. Also, countries will be expected to submit a full report on sources of power within the nation. Failure to submit this report or any report with deliberately placed false information will result in a court hearing.

REQUIRES that all countries must reduce wastes from environmentally harmful generators by 10 percent over a span of 10 to 15 years. If, due to select circumstances, this is not possible, the committe will determine a reasonable reduction rate.

STRONGLY ENFORCES the use of clean power, i.e., wind, hydroelctric, and solar power. If, due to increases in technology, the committe may use jurisdiction on what qualifies as a clean source.

NOTES that payment of any member of the committee or those with direct connections to the committe by a power company in any way, shape, or form, will not be tolerated and the company will receive heavy fines and a court hearing for those in charge and those involved.

EMPHASIZES that this bill is based on the interests of humans worldwide, and that any decrease in world economy will be for the betterment of our planet.

Approvals: 0

Status: Lacking Support (requires 144 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Tue Jan 11 2005

This is my first major proposal, so I don't need it to go all the way, just some hope that it's possible to do so.

The people of Fatastistan prize our environment highly, and gladly pursues alternative energy sources. We will support this proposal.

This damn ship already sailed several times.

Now to make corrections. Misspelled words were corrected and marked in red. My suggestions for improvements are in parentheses and bolded.

Great. Another one of these.

Well, I hope I can gather support for this proposal. I tried a similar one and didn't post here. I hope this will have an impact.

And I hope you bothered to read the passed resolutions.

So far, not bad.

Description: Henceforth, the United Nations:

RECOGNIZES that coal and nuclear generators are a leading cause for envrionmental harm, and that the sole use of these is a practice forbidden, unless the below committee makes an exception.

You do realize that nuclear power is the only practical power source at this point that doesn't somehow threaten to run out quickly or severely alter Earth's atmosphere, right? Banning the sole use of it is removing about the only clean fuel humanity has access to.

Um, how about "I'll bomb your country back to oblivion before I give you access to my technology?" Many nations on Earth are not ready to have information on my antimatter reactors or graviton generators. In any case, this is espionage under DLE law and that is an act of war. So I am fully justified in taking what actions I have to in response to this.

REQUIRES that all countries must reduce wastes from environmentally harmful generators by 10 percent over a span of 10 to 15 years. If, due to select circumstances, this is not possible, the committe will determine a reasonable reduction rate.

So, in other words, they have to reduce the only practical fuel sources they have just because you want them to.

STRONGLY ENFORCES the use of clean power, i.e., wind, hydroelctric, and solar power. If, due to increases in technology, the committe may use jurisdiction on what qualifies as a clean source.

To get an idea of how much wind power it would take to power just France, they would have to annex Belgium and convert it to having nothing but windmills. Hydroelectric is only useful in certain parts of the world, and that excludes the majority of it. And solar power is known as being unreliable as a main power source for a nation. DLE uses it on the DLE homeworld, but the DLE homeworld orbits a red giant. You get a long part of time where the sun doesn't shine for while and suddenly and entire nation is under a blackout.

Also, wind power has the possibility of changing weather patterns in an area, which is a form of ecological damage.

Finally, I'm not going to let some useless committee tell me what is a clean fuel source and what isn't when I've got much more advanced technology than they do and probably much more experience in the matter.

NOTES that payment of any member of the committee or those with direct connections to the committe by a power company in any way, shape, or form, will not be tolerated and the company will receive heavy fines and a court hearing for those in charge and those involved.

Good luck. I want to know how you're going to get the ones in my nation when you can't even point it out on a map.

EMPHASIZES that this bill is based on the interests of humans worldwide, and that any decrease in world economy will be for the betterment of our planet.

Will it, though? Is it really in humanity's best interest to approve of this? I know I don't benefit from it.

This is my first major proposal, so I don't need it to go all the way, just some hope that it's possible to do so.

You might want to research on here to see if we have covered it before writing a proposal like this. We've argued about this particular one many times before.

I had a few issues with the proposal, but I had to go get some food and waited to read through it thoroughly until I got back.

I really don't think that nuclear reactors should be banned. They are really relatively clean, and sustainable energy sources. Nuclear waste can be disposed of efficiently. Hell, if you don't want to bury it on Earth, you could ship it to other planets (something desolate and uninhabitable, like Mercury) and bury it there. This can be accomplished with modern technology, but the cost would be prohibitive.

There isn't really any clear evidence that CO2 harms anything.
The eco's who sold you that bill of goods are lying to you.

i liked it.

I dont actually care about the issue but i think it's
a well done resolution and the first one i've seen
since reading them.

Keep it up and maybe sensible people will come
back to the UN and dumbasses like demonlord will
get a life.

Although you might want to make sure that the planet is uninhabited first, because if I remember correctly there is a nation on Mercury, and I think it might belong to one of the mods (again if I remember correctly).

About the only inhabitted planets near Earth that you can get access to without causing a war are in my region of space. Keep in mind that's nearly 1000 lightyears from Earth.

I'm sorry if I made it seem as though Nuclear Reactors would be banned. I just meant that a county would not be able to rely on these for all power.

I have read through about 90% of the resolutions, and didn't assume that the last 10% would hold any useful information.

Sorry for even writing the proposal. I take it out, but I'm not sure how.
Oh, and I'd like to keep flaming to a minimum. Critisize my proposal, but please not me or anyone kind enough to offer their valuable opinions.
