Please have a look at the lateast proposal, it's Gnomeseizure's Press Restriction Act. I belive it will be useful to any nations woried about the press having too much freedom.

OOC just so you know I'm a liberal/left wing type in real life, the proposal is in keeping with the character of my country.

Please post proposals in the forum:

Press Restriction Act
A resolution to restrict political freedoms in the interest of law and order.

Category: Political Stability
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Gnomeseizure

Description: IN RESPONSE to the Press Freedom Act.

IN ORDER to give national governments the ability to protect the stability and inhabitants of their countries from irresponsible reporting.

ARTICLES

1. The Act gives national governments the right to prevent the reporting of information that might compromise national security

2. The Act gives national governments the right to restrict reporters from entering areas, facilities, institutions and buildings vital to national security

3. The Act recognises the need for an authority to ensure that national governments do not exceed the rights given to them in articles 1 & 2

I see no reason for this legislation: since it accomplishes nothing towards "Freedom of Press".

Our Nation is a peaceful and democractic one, However, We do see the need for this act. Without this Act a Nation risks spys in the form of Television reporters infilrating highly classfied Goverment buildings and gainging sensistive information that may endangered your whole Nation.

This Act is a must.

Well, i think you should be a bit more specific. Is this regarding reporters within the country, or a foreign reporter writing about something that may compromise the national security of ANOTHER country.

Hrm, well, i don't see anything wrong with the proposal. An overzealous reporter revealing government plans for a covert operation (BEFORE THE FACT) to get the "scoop", would indeed compromise national security and the safety of those in the mission.

But then again, if the reporter was from the nation that was being attacked, it's an effective form of warning the people. That would in fact BOLSTER national security.

For the other example i can thnk of, for example, an foreign reporter exposing plans for a new kind of technology. That would, of course, be subject to international copyrigh law already, and reprecussion can be dealt with by imposing sanctions or breaking off relations with the foreign country that the reporter was in unless they pay some sort of tribute, or however the country wants to deal with it.

So, nothing inherently WRONG with the law, except maybe that "National Security" when you're talking in an international world (The U.N.) is all based on the eye of the beholder.

Not my nation, our classified documents are stored in a secret underground bunker under heavy security which includes not allowing any type of recording device except the human brain anywhere near the documents.
