The Global Library
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Great Agnostica

Description: My Fellow Members,

I hereby propose a system to put all of our knowledge in. It will be called the Global Library. It will be Free and it will be accessible to all. The information that will be within the libraries are the News, All Books, Medicine Reports, Magazines, Laws of Every Nation and their Local Governments, and finally Biographies on some the most influential people during human history.

Now these libraries will be located in all member nations in their most popular cities. There is will be also a new Technology within these Libraries which is called Holographic imaging. A holographic image will appear of person and it will help you find what you are looking for and once you do it will turn into what you want you’re self.

For the people that live far from the library they will be getting another new technology that is called the Holographic wrist band. It is the same thing as in the library except it is for on the go. All they have to do is come once and get one or call and ask for it to be shipped (free of charge) to them.

Finally the cost of this. All of this will be paid for by the UN, as it will benefit all of humanity.

Sincerely,
President Caulfield

A proposal isn't a business letter, it's a legal document. If this is your proposal, I suggest you rewrite it without all the personal information. I can assure you that we will not support it in this format, regardless of merit.

Ah yes, the 'free' option. And where does the UN get the money to pay for this? They don't collect dues. They don't have taxes. They don't even own the UN building - Stephistan donated it. There is no money in the UN budget to cover this, because there is no UN budget, period. So before you start giving away libraries, you might want to guess again on payment.

A Global Library network is a good idea, and Great Agnostica is to be commended for following through on this. However, you really need input from experienced proposal writers on this before you submit it again. Post it in the forums and ask for input. You'll get it.

Stop being a stingy git Frisbeeteria. Every member of the UN who supports it can give money towards it. Im sure it wouldn't cost that much. For such a good cause. But I agree with Frisbeeteria that it needs rewritten. When it is I will suppot it

Every member of the UN who supports it can give money towards it.
Then the proposal should be changed to reflect the realities of the situatioin, and require the monies to come from member nations. There is a difference between 'stingy' and 'understanding the reality'.

I think it could use those improvements Frisbeeteria mentioned, too. But you do also have lots of support, at least two submissions gaining over 100 approvals. If you'd like me to telegram the previous supporters (I've saved the lists of approvals--if you haven't already covered that) or give you the lists to telegram, it's pretty guaranteed to pass, considering the likelihood of gaining the extra needed approvals...then again, there's the question of whether this is the version you'd like to have passed.

I'd prefer it if you resubmitted with a different version Monday (after this'n expires), both because I think it would behoove it to look a little more official, and because I'd have more time to send out telegrams to support it. Right now, I'm focusing on the Animal Protection Act. Your call, though.

Please do contact those people. I had already put up my proposal before I had read you post. If it doesn't pass this time will consult with you.

Only one problem: What will be the interface for finding data? The size of it, as is, amounts to the library requiring a small planet just for its memory using modern tech. The sheer size of it, amount of information it will store, and required hardware for storage is immense when one considers the histories and produced literature of every UN nation, some of which have been around and producing media in massive numbers for thousands of years.

The Constitutional Republic of Tekania has decided to help in this endeavor. As such, we are providing an isolinear crystal capable of storing more than 1 billion exaquads of data. The Crystal has been conveniently housed in a 10km in diameter asteroid, that we have placed on a trajectory to intercept earth early next year...

Just out of curosity, This asteroid, it will be stopped somehow BEFORE it hits Earth right?
