Guess what? Stem cells used in repairing skull.

So all the "its never done anything" people - lets hear your "whoops"es now.

Its a test - who has class, who doesn't.

It's rare to get Vastiva, so I must do this.

Wrong forum.

Also, I know it's been awhile since I posted on the one about polar bears. Delaying for what would be an appropriate travel time before posting a landing.

*Ahem*

Sorry, but I'm a rather scurrilous cad, and do have an ulterior motive for this particular thread being right where it is, involving the Stem Cells Resolution...

Stem Cell Research Funding
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Nykibo

Description: The use of Stem Cells is an amazing new breakthrough in the fields of science and medicine. Scientists know that these cells, harvested from human embryos, could eradicate many diseases, including Cancer, Type 1 Diabetes, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's. But while the list of diseases that Stem Cells could cure gets longer and longer, the amount of what little funding is present continues to dwindle. I admit, some people do insist that harvesting something from a human as if it was an experiment is immoral, but allowing millions of people to die each day is much worse. This is the best chance we have at beating these diseases. The one thing standing in the way of this is funding. Stem Cell Research is very costly, and without proper funding, this plane will never take off the ground. In this proposal, I ask that funding be provided to the scientists of all UN member nations, if they so desire to research Stem Cells and their benefits. I urge my fellow UN members to stand up to these diseases, and fund Stem Cell Research.

AND given stem cells have been shown to produce healing effects...

Is it possible/likely/advisable to attempt a resolution giving preferential funding to the study of stem cells, with those cells harvested only from "that which does not have the potential to become a living, sentient being"?

Based on this comment, you have my support. As anyone capable of consent to such a procedure, should be allowed to do so, or parents allowed to make an informed decision with respect to their children.

With respect to funding, I have no idea wht the author is talking about. Funding for stem cell research is up. So, I would remove the funding remarks (reference to it being down), and the embryonic stem cell reference.

I'd like to put up a mild proposal which manipulates the terms of the Stem Cell Research Funding resolution. In short, it would state countries are required to "reasonably and sufficiently" fund stem cell research which uses stem cells harvested from sources never having the capability to become individual humans; or if multiple researches were in place, ones using techniques from those sources would receive first and priority status in funding.

It would also add a bit about the possibility of cloning stem cells, making harvesting altogether unnecessary.

Yeah, ain't finished, but I've been to three parties in 24 hours, so sobriety and sensibility are not high on the "really possible" list.
