Seeking Approval

Hi, my name is Will and I'm new here. I am a UN delegate for the region "The Free Americas" a region in which being a UN member is required. I submitted my first proposal today to the Un labeled "New Minor Sex Age". I have come here to seek the approval of all my fellow delegates of my new proposal and to encourage any UN member to stop by "The Free Americas" and to join our region. Thank you very much for your time and for any approvals I may receive.

1) Advertisements for regions are not allowed here.

2) Post the proposal. Otherwise, we assume you do not actually know what it is and mock you. That's just standard practice because most of us do not have the time to search for them.

3) Don't think I or anyone else here has anything against you. We don't know you enough to be bothered to have something against you. We're just evil.

It has been brought to my attetion that I need to revise my post. So here is my proposal for all of you lazy people.

Category: Moral Decency
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: LivLiNaTer

Description: There is something terribly wrong in our society today and that is the law in which makes it illegal for a eight-teen year old to have sexual intercourse with someone under the age of eight-teen. This law is entirely unjust and has destroyed many teens life’s just because they had sex with their girl friend who may be just a year under eight-teen.
I feel that this law needs to be entirely re-evaluated. There have been many teens who have been labeled as sex offenders just because they had sex with someone under the age of eight-teen. Now don’t get me wrong here. I still feel that people over the age of eighteen should be having sex with anyone under the age of six-teen. And that is why I feel that this law should be more specific like this.
1) Any one over the age of 18-20 may not engage in sexual intercourse with anyone under the age of 16

2) People, who have been labeled a sex offender due to a similar case, should be allowed to be re-evaluated and be able to have the chance to remove the label of sex offender.

Good strength choice, but I would put the category as Human Rights.

Ah. You made the misconception that RL = NS. It doesn't. Nor, for that matter, is the law you stated universal in even the US. Differing US states have differing legal age limits. You might want to check your state to see if they conform to the 18 standard.

In NS, the legal age of consent varies widely even among humans. In my nation, the legal age of consent is 16. In another, it might be 13 or as high as 30. Then you throw in other species and it gets even more FUBAR as you try to calculate their lifespans and when they reach the age of physical and mental maturity (though, among humans, there is evidence that large numbers of people never reach mental maturity).

I feel that this law needs to be entirely re-evaluated. There have been many teens who have been labeled as sex offenders just because they had sex with someone under the age of eight-teen. We have a resolution that covers this, I think.

1) Any one over the age of 18-20 may not engage in sexual intercourse with anyone under the age of 16

See above.

2) People, who have been labeled a sex offender due to a similar case, should be allowed to be re-evaluated and be able to have the chance to remove the label of sex offender.

I'm not sure about this one... I'll let others handle it.

It's a limitation of rights, not an enhancement. Forbidding something falls under Moral Decency. You're not granting extra rights to underage teens, you're removing them from older people.

I think this should be Mild at best. Global nuclear disarmament or a full Bill of Rights would be appropriate Strong proposals.

Apart from that, I mostly agree with DLE. I would further add that this should be a matter of national, rather than international law. I don't see anything in this proposal that transcends national boundaries.

The age of adulthood (and consequently majority and consent) in TilEnca is 14. So under this proposal you would be stopping a great number of my people having sex legally. Which, we think, is a bad thing.

"Invariably, laws against this sort of issue end up being ignored by those whom they apply to, and this sort of crime is almost impossible to detect unless a child is the result.

"We suggest that instead of trying to tackle the symptoms of the problem, you instead try to tackle the cause of the problem. Otherwise you will do little but create more paperwork for the United Nations."

First off I'd like to thank you guys for all of the constructive criticism. Also the reason I had proposed this was also because I felt there needed to be a standard around the world rather than the varying laws from nation to nation.
Also this was my first proposal and remember I'm only 14 so cut me a little slack. Once again thank you all for all the input and tips. :)

Everyone here is exactly the same age: "Ambassador Age". You get cut slack when you're polite, which you were. Keep trying. You'll find we're almost all supportive of folks who persevere.

Also, for what it's worth, many states (such as Michigan) have stipuations for the ages, and differences thereof, between participants. In other words, two sixteen-year-olds could legally have sex. Also, someone 17 and someone 15 could legally have sex. Of course, someone 30 would still be guilty of rape if they slept with a 17 year old.

Of course, I don't remember how it works exactly, but I haven't studied Michigan law in... oh... 6 years or so.

Doesn't much matter when making a proposal (real world references and all), but it's good to keep in mind that such things exist.

A standard? The standard should be one that varies depending on the species. DLE is populated by Sarkarasetans, a species that is almost as far evolved from humans as humans are from chimps, and there are many others, including space-travelling velociraptors and a nation populated by sentient penguines (sp?).

You could word it so someone over the age of physical and mental maturity for their species can only have intercourse with others of sexual and physical maturity. Humans don't reach full physical maturity (as in, stop growing) until the age of 21 anyways. Sarkarasetans reach it at 19, while I think that nation of sentient penguines have people reach it in less than a year.

If you wish, you can also separate that out into levels of maturity. Let me know if you wish for a detailed explanation of how.
