No More Tech Wars

I currently have a resolution going through the system and am looking for support. It is called "No More Tech Wars", on pg. 34. It's a resolution to send warfare back to skilled warfare. No more will countries be able to win using mere bombs, if my resolution passes, we will be going back to swords, spears, arrows, and catapults. More detailed argument on issue.

I have a very small country, which the defense of would not be possible if such a measure was passed. I will not support it.

Post it here, then. It's hard to have an informed discussion when you have to chase the basics down each time. Quote the whole thing, from the name all the way down to the expiration date. Thanks.

This is a very good idea, except for one tiny thing. UN Resolutions, however powerful or well intentioned, have no effect over Non-UN member nations. So this would pretty much leave the 36 thousand member nations at the mercy of the 864 thousand non-member nations. And that is pretty bad odds for us to fight with swords, spears, arrows and catapults against people with hand grendades and machine guns. In fact I think (though, it could be a guess) that with odds of 24 to 1 the whole of the UN would be slaughtered in around five days.

Which is not good :}

5 days.... that is pretty close to what I'd guess; and all it would take is one multi-billion person nation with a few planet-busters... to turn the United Nations back into constitutent sub-atomic particles..... I'd guess, however, if enough of them came, it could take as little as 1 day...

You seriously want a nation that uses ships capable of travelling nearly two thousand lightyears in a week to use spears and catapults? You want someone whose nearest neighbors have cannons that fire plasma (the type found in stars) from cannons, as well as having cannons that fire large streams of antimatter, to use swords?

Does anyone mind if I show this guy what a few volleys of disruptor torpedos fired at his major cities can do to catapults and spears?

You want skill? My ships are the equivolent of fighters designed to take down 4+ km ships by using their size, powerful weapons, and numbers against them. The crews have to be skilled to do that and survive.

I will support this view all the way, as the people of my small but proud nation, although not allowed to vote, consider shooting bows and arrows
at each other far more fun than pressing any red button with an atom bomb sighn on it.

So? Having your entrails cut out with a highland broadsword will kill you just as dead as being atom bombed. And in any case, a supersonic fighter jet can break down, run out of fuel, or crash and a sword can't.

But if you have two nations say fifteen miles apart and one of them has only swords, and one has missiles, atom bombs and mass drivers, which would you back in a war?

And remember - this will not make the whole world only capable of using minor weapons, but only the UN members. So the other 864,000 nations would be capable of pretty much anihilating us within a very short time.

Now, I KNOW you're not trying to convince everyone that a sword is more effective than a supersonic fighter jet. :)

(OOC - have you ever played civilzation, or any of it's variants? Cause with the cheat mode you can have vast acres of fun lining up savages and barbarians against mechinised infantry and cruise missiles. Makes for a very fun, but very SHORT game!)

((OOC - Or having a Barbarian-controlled nuclear missle suddenly and inexplicably appear outside your "ally's" largest city. Oh yes. Very, very fun. :D ))

Yes, but a sword must be up close, while my disruptor torpedos can be fired from orbit. Between my 400+ ships firing disruptor cannons and torpedos from orbit and your nation firing rocks from catapults on the ground, who do you think is going to win?

I don't think this is a very wise proposal, I agree with TilEnca. This will leave UN nations vulnerable to non-UN members.

Jindrak, I just noticed that you used an electric lightbulb as the icon for this thread. I love it!

UN Proposals and Forum Roleplay
[Added #8 on Minor Offenses.] UN proposals may not impose a mandate or limitation of any kind on forum activity; this is considered a game mechanics violation. UN proposals may not require that a particular action be conducted on the NationStates forums (or on any forums, for that matter). UN proposals may not prohibit an activity from taking place on any forums.

I'm fairly certain this would fall under that category.

My response to this is the same as my response to any resolution to ban nuclear weapons, HELL NO.
