Resolution Name: Potentially Dangerous Food Act
Category: Social Justice
Strength: Mild
Proposed By: Adam Island
Recalling UN Resolution #77: Epidemic Prevention Protocol (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=UN_past_resolutions/start=76); and
Whereas: Large quantities of food cross international borders every day; and
Whereas: Occasionally food will be found to be contaminated with disease, often prompting a recall; and
Whereas: There is currently no large international mechanism to notify nations and citizens of food recalls and disease; and
Whereas: Nations need this information to prevent the spread of disease and death;
We resolve that the United Nations create the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, (UN FAO) which will operate under the following circumstances:
ARTICLE I – Definition of ‘potentially dangerous food’
A food becomes classified as ‘dangerous food’ if it fits one or more of the following conditions:
A) A government, corporation, organization, group or individual recalls the food or parts of the food.
B) Criminal or civil action regarding the safety of the food is filed.
C) The food is shown to be unfit for consumption.
ARTICLE II - Action
When a brand or type of food that has been exported or imported to or from other nations that is 'potentially dangerous'
or a brand or type of food that was created, processed or stored by the same entities or in the same areas as exported or imported food that is 'potentially dangerous'
the nation(s) in which this food first fell under the classification of ‘potentially dangerous’ shall notify the UN FAO of the specifics of the case, and the UN FAO shall make this information available to the public.
ARTICLE III – Clarifications
A) The classification ‘potentially dangerous’ should not be construed to imply that the food is necessarily in fact dangerous, it is only meant to call attention to questions of its safety.
B) The notifications to and from the UN FAO does not mandate any specific notification mechanism, and should not be construed to mandate any specific forum, telegram, in-game or out-of-game activity.
C) This resolution does not require or forbid any further actions by any government or non-governmenl entities regarding any or all ‘potentially dangerous foods,’ other than the notification.
