This has been reposted to include the title of the resolution in the subject line, per request.

**********

Resolution #8 Currently Reads:

Citizen Rule Required
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Aschen

Description: This is a resolution to require all nations to grant self-rule to all citizen on some level. Local, Regional, or National is no matter, just so long that all citizens have some say and control over the way they are governed. These measures would promote international peace and serve as a deterent to the formation of so called "rouge nations" that to this day threaten all nations.

Votes For: 11,546
Votes Against: 7,233

Implemented: Fri Apr 4 2003

My proposal:

It is hereby proposed to annull this resolution for the following reasons:

1. It is not within the scope of the UN to mandate method of government. Though it is within bounds to classify nations, the UN and the world community have no right to impose guidelines for inherent government. From despot to congressional assembly, it is the very nature of the UN to allow all willing nations without institute of forced democracy.

2. The broad nature of this resolution currently makes it unenforceable. By having this resolution published it underscores the impotence of the UN to enforce its own guidelines.

2a. By admitting "dictatorships", which defy the very nature of this resolution, while maintaining this resolution is a statement of hypocrisy.

3. Individual political freedoms have already been governed and protected by UN resolution #26 which further confirms the lack of need of this resolution.

********

If you agree to this, please lodge your support in the proposal section. It takes but moments, and with that small effort we can truly affect the way the UN is ran. Thank you. It is currently listed on page 19.

Article 1 is very iffy. I think it is supported by Rights and Duties resolution, but I am not sure.

However, I do support it

The UN can mandate anything it pleases.

How is it unenforceable? Have to have one level of. Ok.

Ok, these I like.

Support the repeal.

Thank you Vastiva. That's high praise, you know, considering you're the most controversial person on the forums. ::wink::

Well, if dictatorships are not allowing some form of self rule, this means that they are all in violation of the Resolution. What is the penalty for non-compliance? :headbang:

Vastiva covered this enough.

Also, it forgets one thing: Not every nation has citizens that want self-rule. Mine don't, otherwise Enigma would have been replaced a long time ago.

Most get around it with mock elections that have only one choice.

I have nothing serious to add to this discussion. I just found the underlined amusing. The latter explains the former. lol

Actually, it doesn't. I don't have secret police, my military is purely volunteer, and I issue military-grade assault rifles to everyone not a criminal or difficient in some areas that would make them unable to use the guns or unstable with them to everyone 16 and older. Plus, by now several generations have been born and grown up with him as ruler. And with military promotion based on skill and experience, some of my highest-ranked people are in their 20s. Plus, I have at no time told them they cannot call for me to step down and have tried my best to hint that they can. If they want Enigma removed from power, they can do it.
