Resolution #8 Currently Reads:

Citizen Rule Required
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Aschen

Description: This is a resolution to require all nations to grant self-rule to all citizen on some level. Local, Regional, or National is no matter, just so long that all citizens have some say and control over the way they are governed. These measures would promote international peace and serve as a deterent to the formation of so called "rouge nations" that to this day threaten all nations.

Votes Against: 7,233

Implemented: Fri Apr 4 2003

My proposal:

It is hereby proposed to annull this resolution for the following reasons:

1. It is not within the scope of the UN to mandate method of government. Though it is within bounds to classify nations, the UN and the world community have no right to impose guidelines for inherent government. From despot to congressional assembly, it is the very nature of the UN to allow all willing nations without institute of forced democracy.

2. The broad nature of this resolution currently makes it unenforceable. By having this resolution published it underscores the impotence of the UN to enforce its own guidelines.

2a. By admitting "dictatorships", which defy the very nature of this resolution, while maintaining this resolution is a statement of hypocrisy.

3. Individual politcal freedoms have already been governed and protected by UN resolution #26 which further confirms the lack of need of this resolution.

If you agree to this, please lodge your support in the proposal section. It takes but moments, and with that small effort we can truly affect the way the UN is ran. Thank you.

A compelling argument at least. Maybe I'll support it.

Frisbeeteria, on general principle, refuses to support any repeal listed in the forums by number. If you can't be bothered to tell us what you oppose by name, we can't be bothered to look it up either.

Actually, look closely... the title is posted.

Not in the topic title.

The topic title should give a clue as to the contents of the post, and Res numbers don't do that. We refuse to encourage this bad habit, so we withhold our support. Brutal but simple.

It just says self rule in some form. Even in the most brutal dictatorship you could have a vote for who you want to run the local sherrifs office. Granted there is only one person standing and voting is mandatory - but they still have a say :}
