NO WAY.

UN Resolutions only affect UN Nations. There is no way on Earth I'm getting rid of my military and putting my citizenry at the mercy of those rogue nations which are not members.

Peace is nothing without war, for peace is defined as "a time without war", so if there is no war, then peace is just "a time".

It's the same as darkness, darkness cannot exist without light as it is defined as the absence of light, so if light did not exist, darkness could not, either.

And in any case, no one could ever keep on peaceful terms with the entire would for all of eternity.

What a perfect example of one-way thinking that would seem logical to so many, yet inpractical and stupid to those who think.

You have to remember that not every nation belongs to the UN, and therefore our 'peace efforts' would open up our nations to invaders, and insurgencies.

Just drop this now...it is absurd...

1) This only affects UN nations.
2) The UN has nations that would love to wipe it out.
3) This is suicide.
4) This passes, you don't want to know how many nations will discard of their weapons. I hope you like your nation being a tunnel straight to the center of the Earth.

Neither is the nation of Merlyns when acting independant of the DLE Empire. Just make them a deal: You'll give them all of the WMDs they can use if they dispose of them as they see fit. They'll see fit to use them on the nation that proposed this. Considering they will be acting outside the bounds of my empire, despite being a territory of it, I am not responsible for what happens.

I'm sorry but what good is the UN if it has no military power? Aren't we supposed to solve world conflicts and wars? Or do we just sit around getting wasted and making up proposals to help the environment?

Look at "Yurope" after its first major war, and what good the "leage of countries" did for it by imposing rules that blamed Kikyoassland for all the problems...of course having no way to enforce any made rules and stopping Kikyoassland from kicking Yurope's ass again...

We would point out, the UN has no military.

The DRA is adamantly opposed to this resolution. The DRA is a strong supporter of initatives which help to eliminate nuclear weapons, weapons of mass destruction, cluster bombs, landmines, laser weaponry, weapons in space, etc. However, the DRA believes that eliminating militaries is a disasterous proposal for world peace and stability.

Unless the world changes dramatically, wars continue to happen, genocide continues to happen, humanitarian crises continue to happen. The DRA is a very strong supporter of maintaining a peacekeeping army to help end disputes, genocide, and humanitarian crises. The DRA's military policy is solely devoted to peacekeeping, as such this country has almost no offensive military equipment and its forces are trained solely in peacekeeping, nation building, languages, cultures, ethnicities, religions, etc. The DRA believes that militaries can serve as a positive force of good in the world in order to aid in times of environmental disasters, or genocide, or war.

While one could argue that if there were no militaries there would be no war, this is not true. There are many nations not in the UN which the DRA has offered to send peacekeepers to before. There are many nations where there have been rebel uprisings. So to say there would be no conflict if there were militaries would be a false assumption.

The DRA will not support any motion which seeks to destroy militaries altogether as the DRA believes that peacekeeping forces are vital for the maintainence of world peace and security.

#1) It is impossible to eliminate all militaries by NSUN resolutions, as long as a majority of nations are not in the NSUN.

#2) Therefore, removal of militaries amongst NSUN members in no way encourages peace.

#3) In conclusion. You need to be re-educated into reality, and lay off the mind-altering drugs before formulating ideas into proposals.

Time and time again you destroy the legitimacy of your arguments and points by adding in insults. They aren't necessary nor are they part of the respectful and diplomatic discussion this organization should be having. You seem to enjoy mocking and belittling any arguments that go against your own and in doing so, you discredit your own points as it makes your statement ludicrous and ridiculous. I ask the honourable representative to tone down the rhetoric and disrespect and stick to the issue at hand.

No seriously though, this kind of resolution is infeasible, outrageous, and oversimplified. No nation in its right mind would agree to throw away its weapons and leave itself at the mercy of the rest of the world.

OOC: I'd also like to state that not even in the RL UN could this be possible. The UN could pass a resolution banning militaries, but not all countries would follow it. Those that wouldn't would just prey on nations who did follow the resolution, creating a chaos this world has never seen. Besides, who'd want to voluntarily relinquish their military power anyway?

Considering how humans evolve and advance, peace is a fool's goal. Humanity defines itself and forces itself forward through strife. In times of peace, it stagnates or creates strife.

Hold a mandatory town meeting in every major city in NationStates, light a gigantic weed bon fire in each, and while everybody is comatose from the drugs, give them a good smotin' between the eyes...should be pretty peaceful once they all wake up...
