I have been swayed by the lively debate and hereby change my stance and vote on this issue. I will now rapidly commence proceedings to introduce a new proposal for the advancement of clone research.

Out of curiosity, what changed your opinion?

I am intrigued by the wording of the proposal. If I interpreted it correctly, it means that the stem cells will come from engineered embryos not aborted fetuses. It will open the door for scientific genetic engineering and eventually cloning of humans. This will only enrich the gene pool and eventually reduce the cause for burden on my health care system.

Shaggagoat,

Embryonic stem cell research has nothing to do with 'genetic engineering' or 'cloning'.

Embryonic stem cell research is harvesting the stem cells from a human embryo - and then introducing them to a damaged piece of human tissue - for example the heart - and the stem cells then repair that damaged tissue by becoming those very cells needed.

This is not 'genetic engineering', 'cloning', or anything of the sort.

Heh - you don't see how it could lead to cloning, Aliste?

We do.

We support cloning attempts as well. What the heck, clones are already people by law.
