To All My Fellow Human Beings

It is my belief that we should all work together for the protection of our world, my proposal only ask for a small increase in all UN Nations budgets which combined adds up to enough to keep a system of defenses in place that can handle any incoming threat, remeber it only takes 1 rouge comet or asteriod to send us after the dearly departed dinosaurs, what would happen then?
I guess the ants would be next.

Please consider this proposal carefully as the lives of our family and friends depend on knowing they will be safe.

I would first like to point out to the honourable member that new science is coming out which suggests that the asteroid that hit the Earth millions of years ago only affected the temperatures on the planet by 5-7 degrees centigrade. The dinosaur population was dwindling well before the asteroid and while the asteroid contributed to this death, it did not have the significant impact on the Earth as had been believed before.

On another point, the DRA has continued to be against any form of weaponization of space, whether it be through UN defence system or the defence systems of individual states. It is the firm belief of this government that space should be preserved for peaceful exploration and research. We must never allow space to become weaponized.

The DRA would support increased funding to the UN for humanitarian causes but it will not support any measures which will support in anyway, the weaponization of space. Also, the technology that currently exists would not suffice in destroying an asteroid. The DRA suggests looking a series of space satellities and telescopes combined with perhaps an initiative by individual space programs to examine ways to break apart an asteroid as it enters the atmosphere.

One final note, the DRA does not believe that the asteroid fear is a significant threat to this world, especially when there are people in desperate need of immediate attention now. Should we spend billions on a space defence system which may never be needed, or on humanitarian and international social causes to help better humanity? The DRA firmly supports the latter option.

I havent heard about the new theory that says the temperture only rose silghtly but would apperciate you pointing me in the direction to read about that.
Also as this was my first UN proposal I wish I had included more info as to what i was trying to achieve.
I agree that spending Billions on something that might never be used is not a good thing, However I also belive that we should at the very least spend more on watching the skys for any possible threat and we should invest into technology that could be used to alter or destory any threat that might present it self. As with all technology it usally has more then 1 application and technological advancement can benefit all people.
I do Thank you for your reply and your Opinion is Noted

1) Post your proposal in entirety. Hacking through 38 pages of proposals to find one is annoying once.

2) How much force do you believe necessary, who is to look after it, and how to insure it isn't directed - say - at Earth?

What a great idea! Might as well put up 300 MAC guns in orbit around earth to protect us from Covenant as well...

Anyway...the current weaponry in our arsenal is sufficient...we have enough to blow up the face of the Earth 10 times over...

And if nukes fail...

Actually a number of other governments, mine included, completely agree with you:

Tracking Near Earth Objects (http://s3.invisionfree.com/UN_Organizations/index.php)

You might also be interested in the United Nations Space Consortium, which I'm sure would appreciate more public participation. The UNSC forum is current mirrored in two locations: the Texas Regional forum and the United Nations Organizations forum.

Here is the link to the UNO forum (which is again open to all):

The last link I need to work on some more, but is to the NSWiki project. A few of us have been slowly filling in the back history of the United Nations. I'll have much more time next month for this. :)

Anyway, you'll quickly see that the Tracking Near Earth Objects resolution was not the first time this basic idea has been brought up.

The lesson to be learned from the Space Defense Initiative and Tracking Near Earth Objects is that nations might agree that there is a danger, but are wary about the militarization of space.

My government and the non-expired nation of Cheney-Land have drafted a Peaceful Uses of Near-Earth Space proposal that needs some very minor tweaking before my government takes the proposal to the UNSC for backing and work. I think the area of "Space" can still be dealt with in the NationStates UN, but I think if you look to the UNSC, that you'll find some other nations that can be very strong allies in these envedors.

Good luck!

Planetary Defense
A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Master Tom

Description: A Proposal For The Protection of our World

We The People of this Great World do request that a system of
Planetary Defenses be put into place for the purpose of destroying
any rouge comets or asteriods that may threaten our World.

A Multinational task force will oversee these facilities to ensure we
are properly and fairly protected.

The protection of this great World is vital to our survival or we could
follow the dinosaurs.

Perhaps if you rephrased your proposal to include defending our planet from possible inhospitable and dangerously volatile alien life forms I would, then, agree to a set allowance of funds. But, as it is, I don't feel particularly threatened by asteroids, nor more lenient to procurring funding for this venture.

Has anybody ever seen the 'Bear Patrol' episode on the Simpsons? This to me bears a striking resemblance. I would imagine huge orbital defense platforms oribitting around earth, as well as nuclear bunkers and silos of Venus, Mercury, Mars and the Moon to ensure us that we will be safe from the tiny little meteors that burn up in our atmosphere, or otherwise the huge asteroid that may or may not pass through our solar system in the next million years.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment of the honourable member’s proposal I am unable to lend my support. It is unfortunately to vague, leaving too many loopholes for abuse particularly from more militarist nations. I also feel that apart from forming a task force the proposal does little to suggest on how you propose to protect us. If I may, I would suggest doing some more research on this arena and enlist the help of others. I recommend the delegation from Mikitivity who posted previously in this debate. I have always found their comments well researched and insightful.

To the nation with the proposal, why not take all this advice, and return to the forum with a revised suggestion, that could not be abused, and expands upon your idea into detail. If you do this you will have my support.

I have listen to all of your comments even the negative non thinking ones, but the positive comments have helped me greatly and i will be working on a new proposal in the near future that will detail everything out including the ablitiy to achieve these objectives with out using weapons of mass destruction, I will also be consulting with the UNSC about the future version of my perosal to make sure we have all the wrinkles ironed out before it is reposted.
Again my thanks to all my Honarable Collegues who have taken the time to point me in the right direction.
