Stem Cell Proposal Reaches Quorum!
Well, Im standing up here (metaphorically) to just give somewhat of an acceptance speech. I realize that Im not out of the woods, and that its not yet a passed resolution, but Im happy knowing that it might be. I'd like a make a few thank-you's to some people. I want to thank Powerhungry Chipmunks for inspiring me to do a telegramming campaign, without it I wouldnt have reached quorum. I want to thank Fareeda, my very first supporter, for undertaking your own campaign for me. I want to thank Rome West, TilEnca, Adam Island and The Black New World all of whom gave suggestions and help make my first proposal into the proposal it is today. I'd like to thank my extremely-religous Art Teacher, Mr. Smith, who in a conversation totally disagreed with me on Stem Cells, causing me to launch this proposal to fund it (ironic, eh?). I want to thank my Mom, who stayed up pretty late and sent telegrams to alot of delegates. But finally, and most importantly, I want to thank all 156 of you out there that that made the difference and got out there and told people and got up and approved it! We did it! Id also like to thank all the people who made offers into their region, its very flattering. After this I hope to write an issue to bring Stem Cell Research to the masses beyond the UN, and maybe write a few environmental proposals, being the well rounded guy I am ;)
Would you like me to close the other thread?

I have a suggestion. Between now and Friday when this proposal will hit the UN floor, you might want to start finding links to medical research topics about stem cells and even have a FAQ about Stem Cell research ready to post by Thursday mid-afternoon.
Also, now is a good time to go to the pacific boards and start campaigning for your proposal / resolution.

I'll have my UN puppet vote in favor of it.

Re: Stem Cell Research Proposal
PUNNS, or the Pilot United Nations News Service, has begun monitoring U.N. member nation voting trends, NationStates sentiment and has begun to conduct inside polling to make a projection on the proposal/resolution the day after it reaches the floor of the U.N.

I like it! Excellent intentions, without forcing serious investment where it isn't reasonable.
You've got my vote.
Yes, I would like it closed. Thats a great idea Miki, please go into detail and telegram me. Thank you for the projections and Im glad you support me.
You've got my vote, and I'm going to hit up the region about it.
Sounds great, thank you for your support!

Hello, Nykibo. In light of Miki's suggestion, let me suggest one site:
http://www.aaas.org/spp/sfrl/projects/stem/report.pdf
This is a report from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the publishers of the famous and well-respected journal "Science". I haven't read the entire report myself, but it seems quite lengthy and informative.
It may have been nice if your proposal also addressed international cooperation on stem cell research (or is there another proposal about scientific cooperation already?) in addition to funding, and specified where policy would originate surrounding such issues as use of IVF embyonic and aborted foetus stem cells (UN, individual nations?). However, our leader is also a research scientist, and 100% behind embryonic (and other) stem cell research, and supports your proposal.

Anything not specified by UN law is decided by the nations. Therefore, until a resolution sets UN-wide policy, it is decided by individual nations.
Personally, I think this less prescriptive methodology is a good idea, as it allows all kinds of approaches depending on what is suitable for the nation.

I`m glad to see such strong support for this resolution, and I am confident that it will pass.
Stem cell research is an important part of our scientific and medical development.

The Commonwealth of Enigmatic States, while having reservations about the role of using embryos in stem cell research, does endorse this Resolution. We support all scientific research that will benefit the citizens of the Nation States and are of the opinion that to make and omlette you have to break a few eggs. We pledge whatever meger funds we have to help in this research.
