Stem Cell Proposal Back Up For Voting

After nearly reaching quorum with my last proposal for Stem Cell Research yesterday, I am back with a revised, and Rev'd up version of my last attempt. I have taken everyones suggestions and made a strong proposal thats just waiting for approval. Please, like I said before, get out there and tell people. WE have to spread the word, and thats what Im doing now. I know that 98 Regional Delegates supported me last time, and I hope 140 or more support me this time ;). I have made the proposal more convincing and clearer than the last. Please, feel free to wire me a telegram, or post your comments, questions, and suggestions on how to make it better. Here's my proposal:

Stem Cell Research Funding
Type: Human Rights
Strength: Strong

The use of Stem Cells is an amazing new breakthrough in the fields of science and medicine. Scientists know that these cells, harvested from human embryos, could eradicate many diseases, including Cancer, Type 1 Diabetes, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's. But while the list of diseases that Stem Cells could cure gets longer and longer, the amount of what little funding is present continues to dwindle. I admit, some people do insist that harvesting something from a human as if it was an experiment is immoral, but allowing millions of people to die each day is much worse. This is the best chance we have at beating these diseases. The one thing standing in the way of this is funding. Stem Cell Research is very costly, and without proper funding, this plane will never take off the ground. In this proposal, I ask that funding be provided to the scientists of all UN member nations, if they so desire to research Stem Cells and their benefits. I urge my fellow UN members to stand up to these diseases, and fund Stem Cell Research.

I will support this resolution, despite my reservations over the dangers of people tampering with DNA. Keep in mind the people who will be doing this are probably the same type who used Einstein's equation to build a bomb.

olneya will not enforce this in its nation because in order for this to work somthing must die and deth is only the will god

1) Sentence structure is your friend.
2) We can use fetuses from miscarriages. Then, we will only be using those God wills us to use.
3) Something must die so that you can eat. The next time you are eating a stake or a piece of lettus, remember that.

Good point, so anyways, Im really actually a little concerned at this proposal, only 12 approvals. My last one might have reached quorum and I wouldnt have known... The night of the last night of voting, it was pretty close. By the way, can someone clear this up for me? How long does a proposal go up for vote? Is it always three days or does it depend on your status or amount of endorsements?

We still need to get support up or this proposal will never fly, again, tell everyone you know! You never know who your friends know.

From the ‘proposal viewing station’ in Powerhungry Chipmunks,

“I'm calling it, time of death: Monday, 21st of November, 2004”

It looks as if it won't get through this time. But, that's okay. Many proposals don't make it through on their first couple of times through. I can offer some advice as to advertising this proposal.

First of all, getting a proposal passed requires approvals, simply put. In order to get approvals you need delegates to 1) find/read the proposal and 2) agree with it enough to approve it.

->You need to get the word out. On a whole, regional delegates do not look at the proposal list unless they have a reason to. You have to give them a reason to look at your proposal. You need to telegram delegates. For "Reformed Literacy Initiative" I telegrammed about 200 delegates the first day, about 75 the second, and maybe 125 the next. You have to let delegates know the proposals in the proposal list and where it is in the proposal list (I suggest a hyperlink--it'll change day to day).

->You also need to consider the fact that not every delegate you telegram is going to approve your proposal. Every delegate has different leanings and a differing rubric upon which he or she assigns approvals. The less likable the proposal, the more telegramming is needed.

Telegramming

-Telegram delegates that have approved your proposal in the past, they are almost 100% for approving it again.

-Be aware of delegates' varying activity. Some delegates only get on weekends, while some never seem to get off. Telegramming the most active delegates first increases efficiency.

-Use other proposals to grab delegates names. If a delegate has approved another proposal, it's slightly more likely that delegate will approve yours.

-If there's an item up for vote on the main UN forum, use the "view delegate votes" link to access hundreds of delegates. This laundry list can possibly provide you with enough chum to feed your proposal, given you have enough time to reach a significant number of them.

-Use the World page's "list all regions" feature to get delegates' nation names. On "Reformed Literacy Initiative" I went through about the last 20-30 pages, the first 10-15, and about 3-5 in the middle (trying to solicit the nearly-extinct Goons). Remember to only telegram those likely to read the telegram before approving ends on your proposal (only delegates active within one day, really)

->Much of this coincides with “getting the word out”. If you telegram the right delegates (those approving your proposal, or similar proposals, in the past) then those telegrams can result, almost 100%, in approvals.
->For delegates who haven’t approved it before, make certain your telegram is polite, informative, and, again, able to direct them to the approval (preferably through a link).

Other avenues to strengthen proposals:

->Use the forum to ensure the proposals arguments don’t have gaping holes. Many posters in the forum make it a routine practice of attacking anything and everything posted. If your proposal can even withstand slightly the over-critique of the forum, it should have a decent approval-to-delegate ratio.
->Contact various off-site forums. They may be willing to aid in the telegramming.

My experience has been that it is convenient to use the forum, but it cannot hold a candle to the power of an effective and hardworking telegrammer. Not many delegates frequent the forum, either. It’s unlikely posting in the forum will produce much result except strengthening of proposal arguments. It’s the telegramming that passes a proposal. Sometimes (and I think of Haui Bei, and Slackerness, here), a team can work together and easily telegram nearly a thousand delegates. This will almost assure approval as the best you need is for 1 in 5 delegates to read the telegram and approve the proposal.

You have quite a few advantages to the run-of-the-mill unapproved proposal. I think you can get this passed.

1) Your proposal has gone through once already (twice after tomorrow), and has received gobs of support in the past.
2) You have great support in the forums
3) You are proposing a fairly “liberal/social/left-wing/whatever you want to call it” proposal. Those have a stellar, and I mean, stellar history in the UN (At least compared to similar attempts otherwise).

The first thing you need to do is save the list of delegates that approve of your proposal this time around. The second thing you need to do is save the delegate votes from the current proposal up for vote: “Definition of Marriage”. And third, you need to get cracking and run it through again, telegramming more and with greater effectiveness.

Good Luck!

Thank you very much, I am very sure that even if not this time around that at least on the third time my proposal will get through. With the forum alone, last time around I got 98+ approvals. Im kicking myself now that I dontt have the list, and I wish that there was some sort of archive with all the supporters of proposals that never were.

I'm afraid my nation will not support this proposal. While Ecopoeia itself has no moral issue with supporting stem cell research, many nations do and they should not be MANDATED to provide funding for something they find so ethically disquieting.

Besides, we have no spare cash for fancy medical science. Look at us, we're barely able to afford bandages.

Well, it looks like you have a nopportunity to make up for missing the last list. It seems your resolution has a gain amassed a large number of votes. Take the list this time, and try to increase your support each of the next times through. I'm afraid I won't be available to help in any telegramming campaigns. My schedule online for the next few weeks will hardly allow me the time. I'm sorry, but good luck anyway.
