Save the Music (Revised!!)

Every year more and more music programs are losing funding due to lack of money in the school systems. Keeping music programs will also help others learn of other cultures through their music. This can be accomplished with music programs in schools, music festivals, or by establishing music librarys. This proposal will Save the Music by doing the following:

1. All member countries shall establish some form of music program.

2. Participation by the students is NOT mandatory, but it must be provided for all who wish to participate.

3. Compliance can be in the form of music schools, music festivals, music libraries or other forms after UN approval.

4. No music shall be banned from these events.

I ask you to help me Save the Music because there is so much one can learn from music, and can you really imagine a world without music?

My only real problem is with (4) - what about music that could be found to be in violation of decency laws?

Dang... didnt think about that one since we dont have any laws like that. They need a way to ammend the proposals.

Luckily we don't have that problem :p

This proposal has our support.

We don't have that many laws, but songs with explicit lyrics, or lyrics that could be considered to incite violance of any type (racial, sexual etc) must come with warning labels so that people know what they are listening too.

If we had a concert for music, we would either have to forbid those types of songs at the concert, or we would have to make it adults only and post warning notices.

Please understand - I am not trying to say explicit lyrics are bad or evil, just that they should come with content warning, like films do.

And I am only saying that these restrictions and so on only apply to my nation - I am not trying to force them on anyone else via this proposal. I am just saying this is what is going on in my nation so how do you think this proposal would affect me?

If it doesn’t pass you could put it through again saying

'No legal genre of music shall be banned from these events.'

Does "music" inherently contain "lyrics"?

Now there's a poser... no lyrics, no indecency problems.

If this was aimed at me, I did actually say "songs with explicit lyrics" :}

No. 4, although ambiguous, could imply simply the genre of music involved. It does not say anything about artists and songs not being banned.

However, on a second though we realize that No. 4 may be counter-productive- what if, say, a group of artists wanted to form a festival for skiffle? Would this festival have to allow a rock act to perform because it would be illegal for the skiffle festival to ban that act due to Article No. 4?

This does need to be reworked, although I like the idea.

No, wasn't.

Read the proposal. It doesn't mention lyrics, only music.

Hence, you could completely remove the lyrics, and allow only the music to be played. You would be in compliance and not have to worry about indecency.
