Global Defense Board

A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security

Strength: Significant

Proposed by: Zelavia

Description: To the General Assembly,

CONSIDERING that a rise of terrorism and armed military conflicts is appearing in the world today;

CONDEMNING all acts of terrorism, and wrongful or unjustified armed conflict;

RECOGNIZING that not all United Nation member NationStates posess the economic or military abillity to defend themselves against the higher risk of armed conflict;

TAKING NOTE that it is the United Nation's duty to assist in the protection of the less developed NationStates, we propose that;

1. TO ESTABLISH a United Nations World Defense Board, to approve funding, and if deemed necessary, military aide to those member nations in need, because of terrorism, or other un-provoked, or justified conflict. To initiate all that follows;

2. TO ENCOURAGE all nations to come to the aide of a nation who was, wrongfully attacked, either in terrorism, or opened armed conflict;

3. SOLEMNLY AFFIRMS to investigate terrorist ativity of any sort, and apprehend the individuals responsible, to be tried in the country where the charged act was committed, or being conspired to be commited, or if it is illogical to be tried in said country, to hold the case in World Court;

4. AUTHORIZES all United Nations members to seek out terrorism in their nation, and to intervine in the affairs of other nations or parties, if substancial evidence and be provided towards an act of terrorism, or conspiracy to commit terror or armed conflict;

5. SUPPORTS the investigation and apprehension of terrorists, international or domestic, within logical reason;

6. CALLS UPON all member nations to assist those in military or financial need to protect said country from acts of terror or unjustified aggression;

7. DEPLORES AND CONDEMNS acts of terrorism, international or domestic, acts of unwarrented aggression towards any member nation.

This proposal will allow for increased security across the globe, and allow less advanced nations to protect their borders and patrol their countries effectivly, and to give United Nations support to other member nations who have been attacked wrongfully or in an act of greed, ect.

well of course we need to stamp out the terrorist threat, but how should this new army be formed- i fear that a world army will become too powerful and a danger to the world even if it is created for the best of intentions. Nations should not be forced to help other nations, or to fight other nations wars. I suggest instead of a world army, a world anti terrorist investigative force that can hunt down these terror cells one by one quickly and effiecently.

Nations should help others in need, but should not be required to fight the wars of other nations. They should do so at there own discresion.

Though The Empire of Dhulus maintains good relations with the members of its region, and has set aside a good portion of it's budjet in terms of defence for our regional nations... But the 3 billion in total spending is little in comparison to what is needed if any group of people were to attempt to disrupt our economies and saftey.

Our coutry feels that it is the mandate of the UN to organize and protect all member nations that abide by the regulations set forth at induction, or passed after admission, to supply troups, arms, planes, intelegence, and any necessary form of defence or offence to protect the cultures that lay within its foundation of members.

Many Nations of the UN have taken the opportunity of UN coorperation to avert defence spending, instead allocating it to projects of social, evironmental, and civit necessities. To, at this point, not put into word that that was implicit in the charter of the member nations of the UN, would be of great loss and ill-comfort to our unity.

The board would also serve greatly to expidite the necesary actions needed to deal with insergents, and hostile nations that guise war with non-coutry fighters.

I agree with this prosopal, and support the ideal it relays.

Last time I checked, this is illegal because the UN is not supposed to have a military and this sets the precedent for creating one. That, and there are questions as to what constitutes terrorism. This also allows a leader to put down revolutionaries seeking to put in a less repressive government by labelling them terrorists. Also, define "unjustified" and "unwarranted" before they get abused.

With no ill-will towards the nation that wrote the proposal, I am done supporting terrorism resolutions. It just seems to be being used as an excuse to pass just about any legislation in recent times, which is just playing on people's emotions.

And in this case the proposer is asking the UN to step in when a country is attacked by "terrorists". Never mind that the terrorists might be fighting for their own freedom from a hugely tyrannical government, or they might be trying to stop the slaughter of women and children. This proposal would require the UN to step in and stop the acts of terror, which could be legitimate acts of war from the perspective of those who are committing them.

It's a very well written, comprehensive and understandable proposal. I just can't support it on moral grounds.
