Apology on the Behalf of Mikitivity to Frisbeeteria,

In the thread entitled “NS UN: Debate Society or Working Body” I put forth the idea that participation in the UN forum was low due to hostile replies to posts. In bringing this basic subject up for discussion for all nations, I reacted in poor taste in response to replies to my question by the nation of Frisbeeteria and inadvertently took parts of his post out of context. In doing so, not only did my reply make that nation feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in a thread designed to encourage nations to engage in open and friendly debate, but my remarks undermined the very point of what I was trying to make … that we should strive to be polite.

In doing so I have managed to destroy any goodwill and respect that Frisbeeteria once had for my nation, and I also managed to divide this body. Furthermore, it has come to my attention that I’ve also weakened the very argument I was trying to make, and in doing am guilty of hypocrisy.

For the record, Frisbeeteria was one of the first nations to befriend my nation when it first joined the UN in Feb. 2004. It was also during the Joccian Crisis that Frisbeeteria showed genuine concern for my nation, when it had submitted a proposal that would have instantly been a UN violation. During the course of the Rights and Duties resolution, I found Frisbeeteria to be concerned about the UN, and willing to go to great troubles on the behalf of this body.

Though Frisbeeteria was not active in the UN forum for a period of time, when they returned many months ago, it honestly brought comfort to my nation to see a long-time supporter of the UN taking an active interest in the forum again. Frisbeeteria has certainly done an incredible job of documenting many NationStates activities, and I have been impressed with their work related to the NSWiki project.

What I said was out of anger and frustration. Though this is no excuse, it saddens me personally to see that a one-time friend has been hurt enough by my actions here that this friendship is no more. That said, I’d like to publicly ask the people of Frisbeeteria for the forgiveness and while I’m sure they will continue to remember this day and view me and my people with great suspicion for a long time to come, I hope that they will one day communicate with our people.

As for me, I am certainly human, and understand that this means we make mistakes. But this also means that there exists a hope that we can learn from these mistakes. As to my earlier point, when a nation or individual is rude to another, it will unfortunately cause them to walk away … I believe the danger in my earlier words more today than I did yesterday. I will strive to treat my fellow UN diplomats with the respect they are due, and humbly ask that this body forgive me.

Sincerely,
10kMichael

Well, hell, Mikey ... since ya put it so nice like ...

Let's put ugly words behind us and move on, and let's stop making all these damn topics about it. I'm for getting back to the business of insulting newbs and tearing apart game mechanics proposals. Ya with me?

I've been here since July... it took til November for this to be realized...

not bad. Most people take their lifetimes to figure this sort of thing out.

OOC:
I am personally very glad to see that some reconciliation is beginning to come from the disagreements of the last few days. As I tried to point out in Mikitivity’s earlier thread we (the players) have some challenges ahead of us in how we evolve and resolve the issues that currently exist here. This can only be done with the co-operation of experienced players such as Mikitivity, Frisbeeteria, Tuesday Heights and so many others too numerous to mention. You have all made an immense positive and unique contribution the NSUN and I sincerely hope that we can continue to build on this excellent foundation you have worked so hard to create.

I'm imagining a scene in a windswept meadow with long grass. Dramatic orchestral music can be heard and, from opposite ends of the field, two figures are running towards each other in slow motion, joyful expressions on their faces...

OK, enough with the gentle ribbing. Glad things are heading back on track.
