UN Prop: Peacekeeping

The Appalaichans

Attention delegates:

Please read over the following proposal, and review it. If you support it, please approve of it on the proposals page. Thank you, we need all the support we can get.

"UN Peacekeeping Force
A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: The Appalaichans

Description: WHEREAS, there has been massive genocide in the lands of conflict in the world, the Federation of the Appalaichans proposes the following:

A UN peacekeeping force will be made, and all nations will contribute forces, funding, and weapons to this force. This force will be controlled by the UN Security Council, and will be able to be used by the Secretary General in times of emergency.

This strong army will be able to go into conflicted regions and stop the bloodshed. Following the stoppage of fighting, international aid workers will be flown into the area, and will be able to provide aid, because the fighting is no longer going on. This will help prevent many civilian casualties in wars.

Finally, after the fighting has stopped, the UN Peacekeeping Force (UNPKF) will do gun buy-backs, and purchase back the arms that are being used to kill thousands. This will stop future conflict as well.

To pay for this, all the countries in the UN will provide money and weapons to this force, and it will pay for itself over time, reducing conflicts, and keeping world powers out of guerilla wars (ie: the United States in Iraq) and will also stop the bloodshed in these countries. Please support this measure as it will contribute to the safety of all the world's citizens.

Thank you,

Rep. Dan Morse
The Federation of the Appalaichans"

Violence tends to create more violence - I know the real life UN has such a force, but I for one do not support International Security resolutions in general.

A suggestion for your proposal, though, should you submit it: Do not put your name in it. Your name is already placed at the top of the proposal, and putting it in and signing it just makes you look big-headed. Don't mean to say that you are, but it may turn some people away.

I oppose this for simple reasons:

1) Not all nations have militaries.

2) Not all nations want to interfere in the governments of others.

3) Some nations oppose the use of military force.

4) Some nations do not wish to provide money for building a military force too anyone outside their borders.

5) This creates a group responsible for interfering with the sovereignity of other nations under the UN control.

6) Some nations cannot afford the strain this would create on them.

7) There are plenty of us already willing to do it and form temporary coalitions, so this is unnecessary.

8) This has potential for abuse.

As I understand the rules, this proposal is illegal. It would create a military force under the command of the UN, which is against the rules of the game.

Aside from the fact that we don't have an army (apart from our IGNORE cannon) and would be loath to contribute any form of funding to a military force.

Ya, I'm pretty sure that's against the rules. If I were you I'd be apologizing to the nearest mod, assuring him that it won't happen again, and beg for you nation to be allowed to continue! They are pretty stiff about that these days...

Wow I bet all you nations feel real BIG right about now. Thinking you successfully just cut-down a nation, you have your opinions, he has his, you don't support ok fine say it and move on.

Beg??? To take a shot at you I say this, "You would beg, your a weak leader to your people, probably because you have a weak country, fueled by a weak economy".

Let me just say this, wars are started because of Ignorance like I just showed and our friend "Neo Portugal" showed. The Irony in it is that Neo Portugal is against these wars, yet many wars in the real world is started just through insulting words. And Please Neo Portugal don't take it personally there are many nations in NS that are guilty of it to.

Real big? I was posting my reasons as to why I don't support it. Just posting your lack of support without reasons is annoying to the person who created it, as they have no idea why you are against it.

Fact is, the proposal's illegal. It's not opinion. It's fact.

Do not use these categories to establish a UN military force. The UN does not maintain its own standing military under any circumstances.

Neo Portugal's suggestion was a bit over the top. Me, I'd have popped over to the moderation forum or the Getting Help page, started a topic saying, "Hey, I just found out my {name} proposal is illegal. Would you mind pulling it without penalizing me? I didn't intend to break the rules." Same general concept without all the sucking up.
