Let's give them food too. They might be hungry.
Oh, large screen TVs. They might have missed an episode of Survivor.
I bet those developing nations need cars too. Hummers all round! Oh, guess we better build them roads, too.
You think their economies might need help now that we're providing all this stuff? Factories and stores, one of each per 100 people ought to do it.
Now that they're all busy at work in their new jobs, we better give 'em maids to keep their houses clean.
Now we have to provide day care for all the maids.
----------------
On second thought, why don't we just let nations develop naturally and figure out what they need on their own.

Where's this money coming from?
It's more of that magical money that the UN can conjure out of thin air for things like Free Education and Universal Health Care. What difference does it make? It's FREE!

Free money? Hot diggity dog, Fris! Whaddaya say we write a resolution that will use UN funding to bolster our own nations' education system and noone else's? Oh wait, someone already did that...

You see, once you start handing over money to a governmental (or even a world-governmental) organization, "my" money and "your" money become "everyone's money." It's a lot easier to spend "everyone's money," because no one will get upset about it.
Let's spend Everyone's money on My pet project. Why? Well, we're a rich organization, and our money grows on trees. Surely we have enough for the "less fortunate." It's not My money, anyway.
Like I keep saying, every day I live is just one day closer to being a Libertarian....

(please no comments on this thread...just an informative)
So let me get this straight.
Nation A is a "developed nation" - so it doesn't get any money.
Nation B is not a "developed nation" - so it does get money.
What if Nation B attacks Nation A? Would Nation A still be required to pay for the defense of Nation B via this 20% thing? Cause I think that is a tad unfair.
And what 20% does it cover? If a nation finds itself at war then it's self-defense budget is going to be a lot higher than if it isn't. And if it has just been through a war it will require even more to rebuild it's armies and so forth.
I would like to see an answer to the questions above, and a more detailed proposal before I could support it.
Also what if I don't think some of the "not developed nations" should get funding? They might be governed by an evil dictator hell-bent on conquering the world and killing all the people he doesn't like. I am not saying he doesn't have a right to run his country however he choses, but why should I pay to defend him when I would prefer to see him wiped off the face of the earth?
