Revise Resolution 74
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Walking To and Fro

Description: Proposal to revise the Law of the Sea Resolution #74 which was implemented on Tue Sep 21 2004.

Being deeply troubled by article 12 of resolution 74 due to it's interference and threat to the sovereignty of democratic nations and serious potential for abuse, I hereby propose the following article be removed from resolution #74:

"12. That any flagged warship may board a ship if it has reasonable grounds to believe it is engaged in an international crime, such as but not limited to terrorism, piracy or smuggling. If the search finds nothing, the boarded ship shall be compensated by the warship's nation to a mutually agreeable value. A database of searches shall be kept by the UN to aid law enforcement. On boarding or attacking a vessel, the warship must immediately run up its national colors or the action will be considered an act of piracy."

I believe you have to remove the entire thing.

That's correct, you'd have to repeal the whole thing and then propose a new proposal with whatever Law of the Sea you wanted implemented.

In my opinion, a significant reduction of the international waters would definitely put a brake to those pirates.

My state is plagued by those miserables, and any change to resolution #74 going in that direction will earn my approval.

Trauma, Governor of the People's Republic of Aguyland.

Correct. This proposal as it stands is illegal.
