Proposal: "Closing the gap"

Lemiden
26-10-2004, 18:01
We, those who have been placed with the care of our goveremnt, of the Rogue Nation of Lemiden, after the fall of the "Axis of Evil" resolution, have noted the honorable nations of the U.N. have been left vunerable to a unjustifiable attack against our peoples. We therefore present this proposal, in the hope of "Closing the Gap" that has been left open.

We note that there were major problems with the "Axis of Evil" resolution, and that thus being the reason it was repealed. With this duely noted, we present another, not meant to be a copy of the "Axis of Evil", but to fill in the gaps left in our nations security. We ask to increase funding for our intelegence services, as well as our military. But we note there are other proposals on the book for this, so we ask to go one step farther. We also wish to ramp up our First Responce abilitys, by channeling funds into Law Enforcement. We feel that we can never be truely safe, and still be a target for them, through losing what made us a target in the first place.

We thank all those represenitives of those nations and regions who even read and consider this proposal, and we hope for the best for all, whether this passes or not. Again, thank you.

-Lee; chosen represenitve, The Rogue Nation of Lemiden

Closing the Gap

A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security

Strength: Significant

Proposed by: Lemiden

Description: We belive that, from the fall of such resolutions as The Axis of Evil, that we have been left open for a terrorist attack. We note that The Axis of Evil resolution was repealed by a wide margin, and so we see that this cannot be a copy.

Therefore, we ask instead to increase the intelegence spending, as well as the military sending. We also add first responce funding, for the Law enforcement, in the case of an attack on one of our countries.

We do this, not to replace the Axis of Evil, or any such resolution like it, but to replace the vunerability that having no such resolution in place has created. We also wish to use this as a symbol that we all stand united against those who would choose to use terror to influence a culture. Now, we leave this to the great nations of the U.N.'s choosing, with our deepest wishes of well-being.

There is already a convention on terrorism proposal on the list at the moment, so how would this be any different?

And not to be openly sarcastic in such a dignified forum, but do you think someone who plans to blow up a building with ten thousand people in it is going to actually care whether there is a resolution or not?

OOC: Yeah, finding adequate URLs on nationstates can sometimes be challenging. My experience has been that, by default, every page in nationstates is headed under the ending "index.cgi" So, when you're browsing proposals and you come across one that you like, you can't give a link to it because the address is "http://www.nations.../index.cgi" This of course will take you back to what the nationstates computers refer to as Your home "index.cgi" The link won't work.

I've found that opening up a link in a new window tends to do a good job of revealing the "actual" URL. This is the way I get my links and it's the way I browse through regions when I'm telegramming (being able to skip from region 1 to region 3000 is pretty handy, and makes it easier to find obscure regions). I think it should work the same way for you. I've tried this on both IE and Netscape (and "Juno", if that counts, for all you fellow cheap freaks out there).

EDIT: here's the right one. (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/-1/page=UN_proposal/start=92)
