Repeal "Public Domain"
A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution

Category: Repeal
Resolution: #60
Proposed by: Tekania

Description: UN Resolution #60: Public Domain (Category: Free Trade; Strength: Strong) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: While the bulk of the Resolution is good. It is felt that turning "freeware" and "shareware" into public domain objects seriously inhibits the ability of smaller persons to make income from their independantly created work. And therefore powerblocks them into working for larger corporations, where they still cannot have any direct rights to their work. This is especially true of Shareware, where the author of the code needs income from the purchase of the application for further work and developments of updates and other newer versions.

We also recommend and encourage the United Nations to seek new legislation on the "Public Domain" topic.

My initial problem with the Public domain proposal was on the issue of making "shareware" public domain, and how this impacted the welbeing of small program developers. The proposal effectively stamps out independent software developers provide limited distrobution "shareware" as their tool for income. We cannot allow the legalized theft of these persons code to continue. While the bulk of the resolution is fine, we must stop this heinous invasion of small business.

No such restriction exists. All that was lost was a convenient word.

Small web developers merely have to change the terminology to "bitchware" or "pesterware" to reflect the annoying pop-up requests for contributions, and they are no longer restricted in any way from maintaining ownership.

Given that the fix is that easy, I don't support this repeal.
