Goontopian Voting Block

Hello,

My government has been following the debates concerning Goontopia with interest for the past week, and has been prohibited from responding to the debate due to a UN Secretariat ruling forbidding my government from replying to threads started by a particular nation.

My government has been collecting some of its own intelligence on this matter, with the goal of assessing what exactly the impacts on regional politics will be with the knowledge of a large voting block of Goontopian states.

With that in mind, the early analysis from my government's experts has found that the Goontopian Block is at its core a legal action. If nations may legally work together in a process that is called "tank rushing", surely UN voting blocks should be acknolwedged to have some legal standing.

That said, having telegrammed many Goontopians this weekend, my government has found that their responses to my requests are consistent with requests from non-Goontopian nations. At the present, it is my government's position to treat these nations with the exact same respect that we'd treat any other nation.

Though they are endorsing each other's proposals, they are also endorsing other nation's proposals as well. A number of Goontopians endorsed the Powerhungry Chipmunks' proposal which will soon hit the UN floor, and a great number of them were willing to endorse my nation's proposals and asked for nothing in return.

Official Statement from the Powerhungry Chipmunks Foreign Affairs office:

Though the UN representative from Powerhungry Chipmunks has started vocalising his misgivings about the Goontopians, we must concede agreement with the UN nation of Mikitivity.

As per our own legal review of the Goontopian affair, we find nothing illegal or not in accordance with game rules with the actions taken by member of the "Goontopian Brotherhood". They are delegates through legitimate means and their development of regions to increase voting power is entirely legal and warranted in the (somewhat) lobby-based UN voting process.

Powerhungry Chipmunks commends Goontopian nations for their active status as UN delegates, a title so many fail to hold. And that they follow their beliefs into the voting booth is too a notable act and fully in their UN-bound legal power to do.

Powerhungry Chipmunks, acknowledging the above, continues to be wary of the potential power which the "Goontopian party" now and may in the future hold. Should they acquire enough of the delegacy to single handedly bring a proposal to the floor this would truly be a force to be reckoned with and it is not clear how fair the representation is to Powerhungry Chipmunks.

Powerhungry Chipmunks will continue to monitor this situation as well as the new repeal option as these situations warrant.

Powerhungry Chipmunks refrains from any further comment on this matter pending future developments

My government is more interested in knowing if the Goontopian nations (UN Delegates) are still interested in endorsing proposals that they feel have merit even if it is proposed by a nation that isn't in part of the Goontopian Brotherhood.

I think most of the resolutions we've endorsed have been written by non-Goontopians.

:)

I'm also extremely happy to see not one, but many Goontopian ambassadors actively participating in NS Forum discussions.

AFAIK only one proposal written by Goontopia's policy team has even made it to the endorsement stage.

Do the Goontopian regions have a common and public regional forum where others wishing to seek feedback on their proposals can visit?

It's sort of complicated. So as a practical matter, no.

We are here because this interests us. We are sincere in our gameplay, and do not seek to behave like little shitwads ruining your fun.

We will endorse what we feel is right, whomever submits it.

There is no other official way to communicate with us other than the forums provided by NationStates.

Note: I do not speak for all Goontopians, but as one of them.

Despite the terse nature of the above comment, it's completely true. Contrary to popular belief, the goontopians are here to play the game, not ruin the game. Just because a group of nations have joined forces to create a powerful voting bloc does not their actions any more illegal than those who have come before. I know it's sad to see your coalitions have some competition, but that's the way the cookie crumbles in politics, no?

Sam stands up to address the topic, hoping the elapse of time has shed new light upon it, and hoping that memories are short,

"Powerhungry Chipmunks has noted the political influence gained by the Goontopians, and is investigating the possibilities of similar developments for other region-groups. The bulk of this exploration will occur after the current vote has concluded. No further comment."

First, all of this is very reassuring.

Second, there likely have been other coalitions, they just weren't public before.

Third, for those of us in unaligned regions, a large open minded voting bloc is a good thing.

so does that mean we can pass our resolutions now? Every Thursday MUST be taco day.
