Proposal Authors: Want an interview? The NS Times

Hersfold

Good day to all.

I am a reporter for The NS Times, NationStates's newest news source. I have recently been searching for UN proposals that look worthy of a vote in front of the entire UN. Not all of them I have agreed with, but I have approached their authors all the same. I am still looking for articles, and would not mind at all if authors approached me for the interviews.

If you would like to have an article written about your proposal, please either telegram me with the proposal's name, or post the info here. If you do post here, please leave a link to your nation's homepage so I can contact you. I will be much faster responding to telegrams, however.

Please note that I cannot accept all of the proposals that may be offered. I absoultely refuse to post more than one article per day (I have a life, believe it or not...;)), and if another proposal looks closer to passing, I may write it up first. Please do not take offense or be disappointed if your proposal does not get accepted. Also, if I get too many offers, it could be some time before your interview comes up. I will try to do as many as I can.

If anyone wishes to view some sample articles from The NS Times, visit the following website:

http://s6.invisionfree.com/The_NS_Times

I have articles written on the UN page (my usual haunt), and one on the Real Life News page on Florida's Hurricanes.

Thank you all for taking your time to read this, and especially to those who offer their proposal.

If you wish to contact me via telegram, here is my nation:
www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=hersfold

This advertizement has not been cleared with the Editor-in-chief of The NS Times, and is not an official advertizement for The NS Times. This offer may be revoked at any time, with or without warning. In that unlikely event, all offers made prior to closing will be completed if they meet the reporter's requirements for submission.

If people aren't asking for interviews could those of us who have an interest in various proposals make suggestions? For starters, the Powerhungry Chipmonks were really close to getting their proposal in the resolution queue this past week. I'd love to see an article on his proposal. (There are others I'd be interested in reading, but that is a start.)

I'd like it if you could interview that chap Mikitivity, and maybe Sophista.

Sophista actually is a wonderful choice, since his proposal has over 13 or 14 pages of discussions associated with it ... perhaps a 2004 record in the UN! :)

My "Global Disaster Assistance" got yanked by a game moderator, but I'd rather save the story for that until after my appeal. Don't worry, the proposal itself did not violate any game mechanics, but there is some confusion and debate on what category(ies) are appropriate.

The "Beer" proposal is just a draft at this point in time.

1.) I seem to remember voting for a resolution you had proposed earlier this year.

2.) I had a proposal entitled "Death Penalty" shot down by a big ol meanie Mod when I had him check it out before I proposed it. There apparently was no appropriate category for that proposal. coughcoggycough

Ummm ( Sorry Max :) ) ... dammit, that site is really cool.

I saw this when it ( your news site ) first went up and thought " Nice but a possible flash in the pan " but this is certainly developing far better then I ever anticipated ...

Its this kind of third party development of the game world that keeps things fresh and this creation, Hersfold, is certainly looking very professional. I certainly liked the Op-Ed section and the analyst article on the various Pacifics facets ...

Any-hoo, bloody brilliant stuff in total, I'll certainly be a regular reader, I think, :D

The NS Times is always looking for other authors, and to my knowledge only the Miervatia Today and Hersfold (sorry I don't know the name of Hersfold's leading paper) are sending articles to the international paper.

The other sections look great too! I'd love to see more travel logs. The paper would also be a great place for the *responses* to UN resolutions that are posted here. Twould be easy to do ... just make a three sentence "in the world" type of piece and submit it once a month.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm the best choice, I would certainly welcome any story written about the United Nations Funding Act, or if you feel so inclined, my fictional UN proxy Mr. Hillaker. There are several other nations and their respective national delegates who would merit writing about; perhaps you could write a series of articles? Faces of the United Nations or something like that?

Just some food for thought. Many thanks to the nation of Hersfold for taking up the noble cause of informing the masses.

* The Rep of Komokom ponders pulling out the old note pad, pen, camera with an over-sized flash bulb and a 1960's marque type-writer ...

* This is of course conditional to if Hersfold would like me to become on of the staff, :)

I would be glad to have you, but it's not my paper. Talk to Blackshear, either at The NS Times (you can post a topic somewhere, not on one of the news pages) or here on NS. I will also let him know you are interested.

A reminder that all requests must include the following information:

The author's name
The name of the proposal (both so I can find it, and in case there are several)
A link to the author's nation

From this point on, any request that does not contain all of the above info will not be accepted.

Mikitivity, I would accept your request, especially if the proposal was that close to passing, except that I cannot find a proposal written by Powerhungry Chipmonks. When (assuming "if" is the case) the proposal is re-submitted, please post the title.

Hotrodia, it sounds like Mikitivity does not want an interview at this time, but I will accept your request for Sophista's proposal, since she has accepted it. I was not aware that it had ever been submitted, but if it has, I would be glad to interview you.

I'm still open to requests, but PLEASE, be sure to supply the proper info so that your request will be accepted. It's enough work keeping track of everyone, sending out the interviews, and writing up the reports without having to also hunt down what proposal you're talking about.

Sophista, check your telegrams, I am sending you a message right now.

Oh, and Mik... I've never really thought about what to call Hersfold's paper, but... How does the Hersfold Herald sound?

Unfortunately, as Sophista's proposal is tied up in moderation debates, I cannot make a report on it just yet, but will as soon as it gets submitted.

However, you can look forward to a report on Xtraordinary Gentlemen's Biodiversity proposal in a few hours, and reports on Kowak's Ban Painkillers and Noazia's International Army proposals tommorrow and Tuesday. I'm still looking for more proposals, so keep them coming!

How about an article on the controversy around Sovick's "Illegalizing Anarchists!!!!!!" proposal on this thread: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=356162

EDIT: the proposal attempt has been dropped, but Sovick's internal actions on the principle are still arousing controversy. Sovick is at http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_nation/nation=sovick

Thanks for the tip, Mypoia, but I can only interview those whose proposals are currently in the line-up. Plus, without even reading the proposal, the title makes it sound like a flame-bait or game mech proposal... Anything else?

I will still browse the proposal line for articles, but I would appreciate more suggestions.

A few of us in the IDU and North Pacific are interested in reading about the UNICEF proposal. If you get a chance, I'd love to read that one. :)

BTW, you are doing an excellent job. My government's office has now subscribed to the Hersfold Herald, though it seems to take a day or two to travel up the slopes of Mt. Delenn. My government actually considers the Herald one of the least biased news sources in NationStates!

For the rest of you ... the Hersfold Herald and Miervatia Today both have submitted articles to the NS Times UN Columns (http://s6.invisionfree.com/The_NS_Times/index.php?showforum=19) today.

Such ideas and offers, are tempting the Glorious Nation of Bahgum to resume it's proud history of irrelevant UN proposals. Our fine, sober and upstanding ambassador is already dusting down the mother in law, camels and kids TV proposals as I write....

I would be glad to interview the UNICEF author. In fact, it will probably be posted tommorrow or Thursday as long as I get the article accepted. Thanks, Mik!

Ok, right now, I am working on Mikitivity's Bier Accord, which will be folowed by Boxtopia's UNICEF proposal on Thursday.

Any other requests?
Hersfold
16-09-2004, 20:05
Since I have no other way to contact him at the moment...

Will Boxtopia please remove my name from his telegram ignore list if he wishes to have his proposal reported on in The NS Times? I see no reason for this action, and recieved no warning about it, and it may indeed be an accident. HOWEVER, I do require the responses to the interview I sent you, and the ability to contact you in order to write the article. It was supposed to be posted tonight, but I will give you 24 hours until I drop interest in your proposal. I apologize for any inconvenience, but I cannot wait for responses that are not going to come.

To all others: I am still looking for proposals. If you have seen one that you think is worthy of a vote, please let me know and I will look into it.

Nations cut off relations with other nations that have established contact when they feel there is little to be gained.

There are a number of nations that have cut their ties with my government. Do not be troubled if a nation has decided to ignore your telegrams. :)

And it can be an accident. There have been times when I've added a hostile nation (i.e. one that sends you telegrams saying that you are an idiot or moron) to my ignore list, only to see that another telegram entered my queue and bumped my ignore to a nation I like! I quickly go back and remove my ally from the list and then try to ignore the hostile nation a second time.

In any event, I'm a big advocate of killfilters and ignore functions. If used in moderation, they will allow everybody a chance to calm down.

My biggest concern are nations that are consistently attacking other nations.

The NS Times UN Section (http://s6.invisionfree.com/The_NS_Times/index.php?showtopic=119) has been updated to cover some new information about the UN Delegate snafu. The article contains some data taken from a sub sample which might be used to estimate how damaging the snafu was.

For those of you involved in the Dodge Ball wars. If you sneak telegrams to me with information, I have a feeling that some of that info might work its way into the press.

What a great idea! But if you are gonna write about anything right now, how about the "bug" that wreaked havoc in the UN for the past day or so?

ETA: OOPS, I see you already did that. D'oh!

This NS Times article (http://s6.invisionfree.com/The_NS_Times/index.php?showtopic=124) may be of interest to some.

[OOC: The Times UN department could use another writer. I've been struggling to get those last 40 endorsements for a few weeks now, though there is strong interest in my proposal, so I'm not able to spend as much time helping others with their proposals or covering the *2* wars and voting bloc issue, let alone analyzing the passage of resolutions or keeping the UNA running. In other words, a bit of help on one of these fronts would certainly *not* go unrecognized or unappreciated!] ;)
