OK, now this is funny!

Pete Rose Act of 2004
A resolution to legalize or outlaw gambling.

Category: Gambling
Legalize/Outlaw: Legalize
Proposed by: Angry Reptiles

Description: The Pete Rose Act of 2004 will greatly help all nations economies. I would like with the passing of The Pete Rose Act of 2004 for gambling to be made legal in every country.

Now don't freak out because this Act will help all of our economies.

Gambling has be shown by studies to increase a nations income by over 75%. It not only has people spending money on gambling (and losing their money doing it i might add) but it also attracts people to stay in expensive hotels and buy faboulous gifts for their loved ones. Gambling will also attract many tourists and tourists (being on vacation) will more than likely spend more money than regular citizens, increasing the income of your Nation by even more.

The only thing I see bad with the Pete Rose Act of 2004 is that some poor souls will lose all their money and be addicted to gambling, yet it does still improve all of our economies.

I urge you all to approve the Pete Rose Act of 2004 for it will help all of our economies and it will be for the Greater Good.

Approvals: 5 (Cheney-Land, Cav, Angry Reptiles, Coolet, Waderow)
Status: Lacking Support (requires 130 more approvals)
Voting Ends: Sat Sep 11 2004

And as a nation with a large gambling industry ... I don't see how my government would vote this one down. ;)

Of COURSE you'd vote it down! If gambling were legal everywhere, there would be no special attraction for foreign tourists to come to your casinos, would there?

It's the same reason why I wouldn't vote to legalize drugs globally. If we did that, my country's licensed purveyors of fine recreational pharmaceuticals would lose all their foreign contracts.

Interesting point! :)

[OOC: Does NationStates take into account regional variability in industries? I just assumed such a proposal would increase the size of the gambling industry, I wonder what game impact such a resolution would actually have, and if that impact would be universal in regions with large numbers of non UN states.]

Not in the Technical side of it. Feel free to RP that way though...
