Youth Gambling Elimination Act

Here is the text of my new proposal, the "Youth Gambling Elimination Act"

I have recently recieved disturbing news in my nation about the rise in youth gambling. I have seen it is a problem for other nations as well.

Therefore, the Kingdom of Tibetania;

OBSERVING that youth gambling is a serious threat to the societies of UN member nations,

OBSERVING the wide scope of this social epidemic,

OBSERVING that different races of people age and mature faster than others.

Proposes that the legal age to gamble in any casino/gambling establishment within any UN member nation be set to an age no younger than the age of majority of said people that inhabit said nation.

The nation of Sophista has argued and will continue to argue that gambling policy falls distinctly within the realm of things protected under the right to soveriegnty. How nations view maturity varies wildly from continent to continent, and for the United Nations to enact such concrete policy would be both irresponsible and oppressive. If you don't like the idea of youth spending their money at the slots, you have a right to pass laws within your own country that would prevent it. However, the rest of the world does not necessarily agree with your position, and their opinion is just as valid as yours.

Hasn't there already been a couple of proposals made about this? if so, there is sincerely no need to make new threads constantly about it, mods wont be happy thats for sure.

Anyway, i do agree under-age gambling should be banned, but its more of a concern at national level, not UN level as different nations implement different age limit policies.

Here at Bahgum, our glorious leader got ever so excited about this thread, then realised that it wasn't the Youth Elimination proposal, but something about gambling instead.

Of course kids should be banned from gambling, after all, whos money are they gambling with...that's right the parents....

Ab-shalom and informal greetings;

As, in our country, getting up in the morning and going outside can be a gamble, our nations official position is one of complete acceptance of formal gambling. Our Sultan, of course, receives his share of income from any and all such events or activities, and proper licenses must be applied for as a sign of respect to our Sultan, but otherwise anything from floating crap games to full scale casinos are completely in the norm for our people and our country.

If the children can earn their money - and the minimum age for work permits is seven with permission and nine without - then they can certainly learn how to use it and lose it. A great lesson in choice. This also allows our psychologists to discern addictive personalities ahead of time.

But enough of my ramble.

Namaste,
Drayaa Kiilgalen
Humble Servant of the Grand Vizier,
Humble Servant of His Magnificence, the Sultan of Vastiva
