The Official 'I love the UN thread'
The glorious nation of Bahgum is disheartened to see the great deal of UN bashing going on around here.
Therefore we propose that this thread should be a haven for those of us who love the UN, warts and all, who cherish a little debate, smile when yet another serious topic is repeated, enjoy dusting off those gay marriage arguments...but most of all would just like to sit around and enjoy that nice little feelgood glow one gets from having a jazzy blue UN logo on your nations website.
Please feel free to add expressions of warmth, endearment, appreciation and gratitude for the UN and this wonderful forum on this thread.

Aye, reet grand idea, comrade Bahgum!
We love the UN, particularly now we have the awesome power of Delegate status and can crush proposals beneath our communist jackboots.
Sophista
26-08-2004, 23:08
Hopefully, East Hackney won't be exercising that power against Sophista's most recent venture into the world of legislation. We, too, love the UN, all it's UN-ness, and more often than not, the multitude of forum veterans who add some degree of intelligence to UN discussion.

The esteemed delegate from Sophista can rest assured that we have no intention of exercising that power to crush his admirable contribution to the Secret Communist Plot To Control The UN. Has it been submitted yet?

We intend to refrain from submitting the proposal until the ad hoc committee has settled on a final form. Given the nature of the resolution, we anticipate a significant degree of resistance, and we want to give those who would oppose it as little room as possible to yell and scream. Rest assured, when it does make it to the queue, East Hackney will be among the first nations to know.

Might as well toss my corporate hat in the ring too ... it's no secret I like it here. Gawd, you people can argue minutiae to death. Makes my sonourous pronouncements sound downright dim, eh what?

General yayness for the UN. I think I might start hanging around this forum more :)
Most certainly, the UN remains a great idea. That a few dark thoughts circulate now and again has not reduced her glory.

Indeed. Strange though it is that the cumbersome, ugly, unreliable juggernaut that is democracy, is the most satisfactory vehicle available to a world with egalitarian aspirations - we have come to love the rusty old cart, and by extension its manifestation in the halls of the UN.

I count my nation as being pro-UN.
My government might not agree with all of the UN policies, but guess what ... that is called compromise and is how non-dictatorships make by. The same approach just needs to be applied at a larger scale.

I am also in general pro-UN. I am somewhat anti-moronic deligates who flood the proposal queue with resolutions that are clear violations of the rules. I am sympathetic to those who are honestly confused by the rules.

We love the UN. Why? Because it is a valuble thorn in the side of oppresive regimes, and though there are a few proposals that are... lacking, most of them support the ideals of liberty, equality and brotherhood. And it gives us an excuse to say "liberty, equality and brotherhood" and of course, that delightful little blue icon in our nation description.

I thought this was a Pro-UN thread...
Anyway, the UN is cool. Down with Police States and Dictaterships! :sniper: :gundge: Have a nice day :D
Bahgum is very pleased to see so many Nations love the UN. Though in Bahgum we also embrace all nations, dictatorships, communist comrades, enlightened democracies and those who are just plain odd-a little like us, though Bahgum is not so plain, but stunningly beautiful, much like our glorious leader....but again, Bahgum digresses.
Go forth, carry the shining blue light of your little UN badges before you, profess to the World its greatness, rally more nations, have them express their undying appreciation of all things UN, lets make this thread a site to direct those who are wavering from the path.....

Oppressive regimes?
I've been Inoffensive Centrist Democracy (my favourite), and the kewl New York Times Democracy and sometimes Moralist Democracy (which was a bit too moralistic too my taste).
But at no time did I oppress my peoples!
Of course... my government didn't really hand out things for free most of the time (I tried to keep taxes down). I guess I opressed y'all a lot by not joining.
Hummm... I did get nuked in the end. S'ppose that's some sort of oppression to life.
Hey nations..yes that means your insignificant little blotch on the world map of a tinpot state. We ain't seeing enough love here, come on....you know you want to...love the UN, let us all know, shout it from the top of your missile launch pods, tell your fellow nations....you'll feel better for it...

I get pretty bored without having things to do so it gives me more to do.

Just having another warm 'I love the UN day'.....
Anyone else like to share their joy and put it in words? go on...
Bahgum has noted that the infernal whingeing about the UN thread has appeared again, and so feels that we are dutybound to bring back the more pleasant and uplifting alterantive thread. Express your love of the UN here folks!!!!

Ok. That's my quota for the year.
Yes, the UN is a wonderful place; with the exception of wondering what someone consider 'freedom' as being... But that's a different topic. We have most enjoyed spreading the little liberty we can; by supporting those resolutions which maximize individual liberty, at the expense of state authority.
May the UN constinue to shout 'Libertaire'.....

May the blessing of a thousand healthy camels be upon you dear Flibbleites for bumping this post, our Glorious Leader was just about to have this done hisself. Seems that those who know no joy are back to griping again. Rejoice in the UN!!!
I'd love the UN even more if the member nations able to create proposal wouldn't clutter the lawbooks with so many redundant resolutions.
I'd love the UN even more if the member nations able to create proposal wouldn't clutter the lawbooks with so many redundant resolutions.
But isn't that half the fun of debate? Finding out if something is actually duplicating another, or if there is some slight, minor point that makes it the greatest single piece of legislation since the resolution to remove Region Coding on DVDs :}

DLE,
I discovered that I cannot access my nation further. Was I banned because of our discussions in the various threads? "repeal gay rights" and the "Crimes Against Humanity?" I have been interacting very well with other users in this game up until our interaction. If I have been banned, I would like to know who to contact then to sort out this situation. I have never cursed or been rude to anyone on here. I have had a differing opinion though. From what I was told of this game that would be welcome here.

Banned? Not that I know of. It might just be a random NS glitch. We've been getting a lot of those lately. You might want to post on the moderation forum about it just to be on the safe side.
If you were banned, they'd also take out the forum account. And considering that convo, I'd probably be banned as well. NS is probably just down.

Correct. It has been down for several minutes now.
I can't help noticing this thread is pretty small in comparrison to the one full of hate and loathing.
Does that mean we love the UN, but are less vocal about it? Or that everyone who pretends to hate the UN just wants to make sure people know what they are saying?
Or that everyone who loves the UN posts in it's defence, but no one comes here to dump on the UN when we write what a suitably wonderful place it is in this thread?
Or....
(or am I putting too much thought in to this?)

I love the UN but have few issues about it.
Firstly, the game of nationstates is not, I repeat this, not, supposed to be that realistic with regard to real-world politics, and has a humerous bent to it.
However, UN resolutions that are accepted are realistic and do not have a humerous bent.
Rather ironic, don't you think?
Secondly, it is deemed illegal to refer to real-world statistics and organisations when proposing resolutions.
However, is the nationstates UN, not based on the real-world UN?

That's because we typicaly want quality resolutions. (and the mods have a habit of deleting joke proposals)
Secondly, it is deemed illegal to refer to real-world statistics and organisations when proposing resolutions.

In a word, no, because if it was then nations could ignore resolutions (without needing to find a loophole in them).
I think they should make UN gnome shaped teddies for us, or T-shirts so we can express our wuv.
