[re-submiting] Equality of The Sexes

I'm resubmitting as soon as I can get when I can get hold of Komokom.

Does anyone have any comments on it before I let it go?

After a debate in the UN forum and moderator approval the proposal 'The Sexes Rights Act' has been submitted. Please read the text bellow and if you like it; either endorse it or request your delegate does.

The United Nations notes with sorrow the precedent in history and contemporary times where male dominated cultures infringe upon the rights of women. The following document is intended to both relieve and resolve much of these discriminative actions, not for one sex, but for all.

The United Nations :

Re-affirms and Re-states : Article 4 of The Universal Bill of Rights, implemented by the Nation States United Nations on Fri Aug 8 2003.

Deplores : The intimidation of one sex or more by another or others. Whether that sex is chosen or by birth.

Is Deeply Disturbed By : Government encouraged segregation of the sexes and suppression based on sex.

Does Formally Recognise and Declare : That the rights of all sexes are equal and that this equality must be preserved in the interests of the rights of all citizens of Nation States United Nation member states.

RESOLVES :

1. The Nation States United Nations legalises divorce, in all member states, for people in abusive marriages.

2. The Nation States United Nations calls upon all employers within member-states to provide equal chance at employment/ranking for all sexes.

The above condition is recommendations applicable within reason in that they are open to interpretation by a member states legal system in regards to each individual case, under the condition that the legal system must act in an un-biased fashion in regard to these cases.

3. No UN member nation shall bar illustrations of internal or external genitalia when such illustrations are used for educational or informative purposes including those parts that are deemed 'unnecessary' for reproduction and/or offensive.

4. Cosmetic surgery on genitalia at birth because a child's genital does not conform to what a nation believes as 'normal' for that sex is hereby prohibited in all UN member nations.

5. The practice of infanticide based only on the sex of the baby, or the ambiguity of sex, shall be prohibited in all UN member nations.

6. Religious organisations, vocations were you are required to play a role (eg actors), and jobs passed down ancestrally are exempt from clause 2b.

Equality of The Sexes is the sister proposal of 'The Sexes Rights Law'

I like the general points, a few problems though (I know some are just nitpicking) - the stuff that isn't commented on is all perfectly fine IMO:

Deplores : The intimidation of one sex or more by another or others. Whether that sex is chosen or by birth.

I think this should be one sentence with a comma, rather than 2 separate sentences.

Does Formally Recognise and Declare : That the rights of all sexes are equal and that this equality must be preserved in the interests of the rights of all citizens of Nation States United Nation member states.

There are some cases where this principle cannot really function, and at least one where we have specifically legislated on one sex's rights but ignored the other - abortion. Maybe something like - "except in cases where the biological features of different sexes make certain rights inapplicable to certain sexes".

I thought Komokom's resolution covered this issue.

3. No UN member nation shall bar illustrations of internal or external genitalia when such illustrations are used for educational or informative purposes including those parts that are deemed 'unnecessary' for reproduction and/or offensive.

Since according to Dictionary.com, the relevant definition of "illustration" is "Visual matter used to clarify or decorate a text", this could conceivably allow gross invasions of privacy - say some tabloid paper took nude photos of a celebrity without their consent, they might be able to publish them without reproach in order to "inform" the public about said celebrity's genitalia. I don't know how to rephrase this section appropriately.

4. Cosmetic surgery on genitalia at birth because a child's genital does not conform to what a nation believes as 'normal' for that sex is hereby prohibited in all UN member nations.

I'm not sure you can say "genital" singular. Also, as far as I can see this wouldn't stop people waiting a couple of days and then performing said surgery, because it wouldn't be "at birth".

Good luck with this!

Your changes have been made to the master copy.

Komokom's dealt with giving people in jobs equal pay and opportunities mine gets them those jobs in the first place.

Ok great you probably have my support, assuming the changes you made in response to my comments are ok.

My nation cannot submit to this resolution.

The reasons are, essentially, that this is a silly overarching rule that is based
on nothing but the hyper-rulemaking minds that wrote it to paper.

Nothing against those wishing that all people should be treated equally, but in
my land we believe that such silliness as this ruleset is better dealt with by
publicly pelting people who make others feel bad with tainted-seafood and,
should they persist in their "bad-feeling-making", driving them into the sea
until they are eaten by the infamous Iakeokeo Man-eating-clam herds.

Should I therefore resign from the UN..?

Thank you, and may peace and freedom from stupid rules be your destiny..!

We would suggest, that there have to be women in at least 50% of the positions, that have the pouvoir of taking political decisions. Of course that would also concern UN-Delegates.

I think that would have been better suited to the other one. And I don't really want to say that because of countries that have;

a) Proportional representation;
b) True democracies;
c) More then one sex.

1) as TBNW said, that's undemocratic and couldn't apply to species with 3 or more genders
2)Surely saying "at least 50%" is sexist towards men
