Sovereign Nations Act

A resolution to restrict political freedoms in the interest of law and order.

Category: Political Stability Strength: Strong Proposed by: Shenadoah

Description: WHEREAS The United Nations has passed resolutions in the past regarding the laws of a sovereign nation, it is regarded by the free, sovereign nations that make up this governing body, that the United Nations should not, and will not, be able to enforce it's will on the people of that sovereign nation in question.

This resolution would limit the power of the United Nations, repealing any resolution already passed that conflict with the laws of any member sovereign nation, and preventing any future resolutions that conflict with such problems.

That is, the United Nations cannot "ban" a dictatorship, drug use, or any other portion of the sovereign nation's rights to rule their people.

This resolution is supported by the people of the region of The 13 Colonies, a region devoted to freedom.

Representative Daniel Morse
People's Republic of Shenadoah
Delegate, The 13 Colonies

I'll make a detailed crit…comment later.

If I may, Black...

...repealing any resolution already passed...

NO proposal is allowed to repeal another for ANY reason. This proposal should be removed from the queue by the mods on the grounds that it interferes with game statistics.

Also, it would completely undermine the UN. If this proposal was passed, no proposal would ever be able to pass, or it would be interfereing with this law.

I am highly against this proposal, and will in fact be reporting it to the moderators.

I'll do it.

WHEREAS The United Nations has passed resolutions in the past regarding the laws of a sovereign nation,
No argument but it isn't going to change.

it is regarded by the free, sovereign nations that make up this governing body, that the United Nations should not, and will not, be able to enforce it's will on the people of that sovereign nation in question.
Unless they are all leaving they are subject to the whim of the UN.

This resolution would limit the power of the United Nations,
Oh no, this would be game mechanics.

clearly the UN can infringe on whatever it wants because the option to make such proposals exists

repealing any resolution already passed that conflict with the laws of any member sovereign nation, and preventing any future resolutions that conflict with such problems.
And so would this.

Flagrant Offences
1. Radical changes to Game Mechanics - including but not limited to the following: setting up parallel UNs, Security Councils etc; allowing individual nations to decide whether or not to abide by resolutions; repeal proposals or proposals supporting the repeal of past resolutions.

A Flagrant offence gets 'you removed from the UN'

That is, the United Nations cannot "ban" a dictatorship, drug use, or any other portion of the sovereign nation's rights to rule their people.
The UN can't ban any type of government but it can do all the other stuff.

This resolution is supported by the people of the region of The 13 Colonies, a region devoted to freedom.

Was that really necessary?

This proposal effectively makes The UN worthless. This proposal is also illegal.

And dare we mention that there is already a definition of Sovereignty in play? See Discussion: Rights and Duties of UN States (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=310660) for all the details.

Folks, please read UN Resolutions Throughout History (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/-1/page=UN_past_resolutions) before posting your latest magnum opus. It'll cut down on wasted time and irritation.

Yes, well, fortunately, it seems we are not really discussing that here, but instead just trying to kill this proposal.

And in addition to Frisbeeteria's comments, also check Before you make a proposal... (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=282176) to prevent anything like this happening. And even if you do not intend to modify or repeal any existing proposals, make sure it is worded to prevent misinterpreteation. My "Defining the UNEC" proposal used to be called "Amendments to the UNEC" until a mod flipped out over the name, deleted it, and gave me a warning.
