For the curious:

Stop nuclear escalation A resolution to slash worldwide military spending.

Category: Global Disarmament
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Farflung
Description: while it is recognized that every nation needs to see to thier own defense, the proliferation of nuclear ,weapons and nuclear powered ships, and vehicles, only makes war easier, more logistically managable.
It is our argument that nations are capable of covering thier militarty needs with out the use of nuclear energy in any form.
Our proposal is this: That all nations must scrap all armed nuclear vessels and vehicles, and further no nation shall
construct ,or sell the afore mentioned items as tranffeering the problem to "nonmember" states is not solving it.
In addition all nuclear bombs, warheads ,and missles design for carrying nuclear warheads be disposed of.
this should take no more the three years from the adoption of this proposal.
Note that civilian nuclear power reactors and unarmed nuclear vessels are not affected by this proposal.
Further note that unarmed refers to no delevery systems ie:
Guns, torpedo and missle launch tubes and systems ,not simply the state of being unloaded.
Reasearch is not resicted except that no "working" or armed prototypes may be built.

Bolded sections in the body need to be changed to 'all UN nations' or the resolution is illegal, red section is highly unclear because any suitably large gun, missile or torpedo could be adapted to mount / fire a nuclear warhead with reasonably skilled engineers, and a lot of mid-range ballistic missiles don't necessarily carry nuclear heads but can. It also fails to emphasise safe disposal, meaning the bombs could just be dropped in the sea, detonated or sold off through dubious government agencies.

It probably reflected badly on me that all I could think right away was that :

" For far too long, humanity has been in grave danger, the cause of which is stemming from nuclear escalation, or more commonly known as, nuclear powered escalators, which if used, could re-locate people at incredible speed and to much damage to the environment ... "

You can't honestly believe in a world where most have nuclear weapons, and the principle of MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) is the best defense, that this sort of idea has any place?

Non-UN Aggressor: "Surrender, or I'll nuke you!"
UN Defender: "I'll use bad language on you!"
Non-UN Aggressor: *presses the red button*
UN Defender: *ceases to exist*

The best thing to do if this passed, would be to leave the UN and nuke you into a glowing cinder. Heck, we've got a nut selling suitcase bombs to the general public! *shakes head*

This is a bad idea, period.

Not getting my support on the purely selfish grounds that my economy relies on Uranium mining.

Secondly, with the number of non-UN members who would jump at the chance of nuking without expecting retaliation....this proposal is highly foolish
