We are all aware that many of our novelties are made in sweatshops with a very low salary.
We purchase designer goods for £25 or $25 when the makers only get paid 1/1000th of that.
A chinese woman working in a Nike sweatshop will have to work 1500 years to equal the amount of money the Nike boss earns in 1 year.
Coffee and tea growers earn next-to-nothing for their beverages which we pay a fortune (in their eyes) for.
I quote from Fairtrade.org.uk: "Too many farmers in the developing world have to contend with fluctuating prices that may not even cover what it costs to produce their crop"
Yet again, I quote: "International trade may seem a remote issue, but when commodity prices fall dramatically it has a catastrophic impact on the lives of millions of small scale producers, forcing many into crippling debt and countless others to lose their land and their homes"
Therefore, the Holy Republic of Seriphyn is proposing a fairtrade deal. Companies who use sweatshops and abuse third-world farmers will have to pay above market prices to improve the conditions of poor workers.
You may think this could result in an economic collapse. However, when the farmers recieve money for their hard-work they can improve their farming methods such as using machinery and fertilisers which results in better quality products which finally result in much more profit.
This will also improve the third-world as a whole, with farmers and workers being able to pay for diseases and improve their working and living conditions.
Overall, this all results in more money. Much more money than how much it costs to initiate in the first place.
I hope you support my ideas in making the world a better place to live in and helping the less fortunate as well as satisfying the more capitalistic and bureacratic among us.
Best Regards,
Sebastian Pepperell
