A few questions from a new nation
I have a few questions for the UN before I decide to join.
#1.Are there any kickbacks to a new nation if they join the UN, meaning will my nation recieve aid from other more prosperous nations?
OK at the moment I really have only that one question, I'm new at this whole nation running thing

First, you can roleplay that you are getting aid. There are old UN resolutions that imply that the UN is taking up money for setting up all sorts of programs, so who here can prove you wrong if you claim that the UN suddenly started giving your nation money for schools (from say the UNEC resolution)?
There are other UN resolutions where others are still roleplaying out and running the organizations created by the resolutions. (We should really make a list of that and have the chairs of various functional UN bodies in a stickie.)
Second, you get to vote on UN resolutions, but your game stats will change according as well. If the current resolution passes, you won't immediately see it, but your public welfare system will increase a bit ... I'm not sure if there is a negative impact, such as a tax increase or not.
Anyway, UN resolutions change your game stats just like those daily issues.
Whatever feeder region you were assigned when your nation was created, I recommend seeing if there is an off-site forum that you like and joining that as well. Your UN Delegate will probably be happy to show you *his / her* idea of how to play the game.
Similarly, there are UN Delegates in smaller regions that are extremely friendly and worth getting to know as well. If you find there is a UN Delegate that shares your political views, you might want to consider joining his / her region.
BTW, even if you leave the UN, you can still debate resolutions here in this forum. :) That would make you a UN Observer nation (kinda like Switzerland was for years).
I'm not sure if there is a negative impact, such as a tax increase or not.
Yes there is. My tax rate has gone up 10% because of the U.N.

Tax depends on what your country is like.
http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=333482 has some info (not about tax)

That was a great series of posts, and I would love to see them sticked or saved.
It would be interesting to see the forumla for this ... but perhaps part of the fun of the game is to figure this out.

Thanks I was planning on telling the mods that it was a lost sticky but I doubt they would fall for that.

1) Reduce Black Market Arms Sales is one of these. There is an off-site organization for this, with a great forum, resource material and so on. I should know, I'm a memeber.
;)
* Will linky it up for you to see once I dig out a link.
If any-body knows of some more, maybe we could list them here for now. Until moderation could be convinced to sticky for us. I'l also dig up a link so people could see what the Reduce Black Market Arms Sales
2) Might I remind every-body there is a U.N. channel on mIRC.
Use " #ns_unitednations " to get in, its usually a little empty, mainly due to lack of publicity. So spread the word people !

Use a puppet nation for the UN.
The UN will mess your nation up, since nearly all the resolutions passed are anti-business and pro taxation/regulation.

I'm not quite sure how you can say that pro regulation proposals are bad, given that the UN is a regulatory body.

"The UN will mess your nation up, since nearly all the resolutions passed are anti-business and pro taxation/regulation."
Correction. The majority of resolutions are anit-rape-and-pillage. We're into that "make stuff safer/cleaner" kind of thing here.

Just like the USSR made everything safer and cleaner by passing all that regulation?

There have been a host of free-trade resolutions. In fact, it might be time to do a recap of the categories of UN resolutions, because frankly I tire of "puke politics" like the above statement give way to.
