O.K. I would like to state my opinion about banning the death penalty in all UN member nations. My vote is no. If you say that the death penalty violates the right to life, well what about the muderer? HE/SHE VIOLATED THE RIGHT TO THE VICTIMS LIFE WHEN HE/SHE KILLED THEM!!! IF MY COUNTRY WANTS MUDER TO BE PUNISHABLE BY DEATH THEN I SAY LET IT BE SO!!! If you don't like the death penalty, then all you have to do is dont imply it on your nation but don't force your opinions and ideas that i just don't like on me. I am a lunatic, yes i know, and i could snap at any moment. Don't force your opinions on my or I just might start blasting...

IF YOU AGREE WITH ME PLEASE MAKE A POST SAYING SO AND PLEASE FURTHER THIS ARGUMENT. IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ME I DONT GIVE A DAMN! DON'T TALK TO ME I DONT WANT TO HEAR IT! IF THE DEATH PENALTY IS REASONABLE PLEASE VOTE AGAINST THIS CURRENT UN RESOLUTION. Thank you for your time and have a nice day!

I think that the death penalty should be up to the Nation to decide, not the UN. I beleive that the basis of the death penalty should be accounted for on a case by case basis, depending on the violence of the crime in question. Like say a kid steals a candy bar, that is not something you would impose the death penalty on. But say I take a gun to work and kill everyone there, then i think i should be put to death. I mean sure it would be nice not to have a death penalty, but practically how r u supposed to prevent someone from becoming a serial killer? I mean with your idea, i think it would promote murder to an extent..... think about it, im homeless i find a gun, i have no food or water, so i shoot a man and get to go to prison and get 3 meals a day. While if there was a death penalty then i know that i would not want to kill someone because i know i would end up dead too. This is my opinion and i refuse to "ban" the death penalty. Although i may be willing to place restrictions on its use.

I don't necessarily agree with your, um, :ahem:, attitude, however I am most certainly in favor of capitol punishment, and firmly believe in the principle that justice necessitates that the punishment fits the crime. Vengeance is not a bad word, it is the Governments job to enact vengeance for her people. Unfortuneately it seems a majority of the U.N. cares more about the monsters that perpetrate these gastly crimes, then the vicitims that they have slaughtered... As for the innocents argument... Very few, IF ANY, innocent people are executed when a justice system is properly instituted. When a heinous murderer most wickedly steals the life of another Tekanian citizen, it is the Tekanian legal system's moral duty to seek out the perpetrator, and penalize his life. His right to life ended the moment he was found guilty by the overwhelming facts of his crime, by the determination of a jury of fellow Tekanian citizens. It is not our duty to protect his rights afterwhich he forfeited them by the ghastly acts of murder that he has comitted...

The Holy Empire of Aille does not support the death penalty. That said, however, we feel that in matters international it is important to recognize the sovereignty of individual nations except in issues of global justice significance. We are still attempting to decide for ourselves if we consider the death penalty to be a global justice issue. Trixky issueses.

speaking as a country that recently reintroduced the death penalty for some crimes i am voting against this proposal. I believe that it is an effective deterrant and also that countries need to have some decisions themselves and so on both counts i vote no on this resolution

I don't really have an opinion regarding capital punishment, but I think it would be nothing short of hypocritical for the UN to ban it while on the other hand they support abortion. To defend the sanctity of life, you have to defend it on all fronts. Not mearly when it's conveniant.

I find the wording interesting. Are you stating that there are no gay people who advocate the death penalty, or straight people against it?

Look at it this way, why do we have a criminal justice system? As I see it there one of two reasons. The first is more idealistic and often what people say is the reason and that is to seek justice. The second, and more logical reason, is to protect the majority of society from those who would do it harm.
To that end, we lock people away for the length of time we deem necessary to rehabilitate them. So why do we keep people in prison for life? That means that we think it would take a lifetime or more to change that person. It is much more efficient and economic to institute the death penalty and in the end it achieves the same result as life in prison.

It isn't that i think no gay people advocate the death penalty it is just that i hate gay people and i hate hippies and i hate liberals and i hate people who oppose the death penalty. Put the all together and what do you get? a gay assed hippie liberal douche and that would be a severe form of hate. I don't understand how you could dissaprove of the death penalty by saying that it is inhumane and that it is torture. Is it torture if a leathal injection is used? No. An inhumane form of torture would be killing them by tearing there fingers and toes off and forcing them to eat them and then waiting for them to bleed enough so that you have collected the blood you duct tape the person to the indide of a bowl while they are still alive continuing to collect blood until they die, then letting the body soak in their own blood until the flesh rots away, still under-blood mind you, and then pulling the remains of the body out scraping what flesh is left attached to the skeleton and then having the bloodstained bones hung on your wall. Now that is frikin torture. I dont want anybody telling me that i cant put sombody down silently and painlessly because it is torture because quit frankly i think i might have to go in blasting their asses.

My psychic powers reveal...this guy is a Year 8, who has just started learning German, with no ideas of politics and seems to be very hateful. Please, mods, the poll is offensive and this isn't really a very good debate. Please lock it.

Edit: Oh, and it's already been covered in other topics.
Edit 2: The capital letters! They burn!

Year 8 it the ninth year of school in the UK, that would make you 12/13 so it wasn't far off. For the record I learnt German from year 7.
