Oil Tanker Initiative
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: Automobile Manufacturing
Proposed By: Funky punks

Description: This initiative proposes that oil tankers shall hereby be occampanied by a HAZMAT certified cleaning crew to prevent any oil form being lost and spilled into the ocean. In doing so many animal deaths shall be avoided by making water cleaner and safer for aquatic waterlife. Many innocent lives shall be saved.

In doing so 2.3 trillion dollars shall be spent to train and certify personelle for the job. And also the automotive industry shall face a tax of 250 million dollar tax to have oil shipped across the many oceans and seas. This tax is a small price to pay to save animal lives.
Hey the less oil leaks the better.

Firstly, for future reference, please note it is good etiquette to paste a copy of the proposal in the thread, it makes it a great deal easier for everyone to review and secondly following on, please run any proposals through a spell check.

The most obvious objection I have to this proposal is the tax , not all nations have dollars as their currency we have our own, same as you. The levy’s proposed are ridiculous and will result in crippling the economies of smaller nations. Finally, I don’t believe there is a HAZMAT organisation in the NS world, however I may be wrong on this.

I recommend you do some research on environmental policy before making proposals on the environment and I would also recommend enlisting the help of other nations, some of whom here are very knowledgeable on environmental issues. In addition please read the sticky threads on the first page of the UN forum which will help you write better proposals and how best to go about getting support for them.

The government of Telidia is therefore unable to support this proposal and wish the honourable member the best of luck in writing future proposals.

Respectfully,
Lydia Cornwall, UN Ambassador
HM Government of Telidia

1) Thank you Telidia, :)

2) Correct points, also, the U.N. is not aloowed to order a tax. A past resolution prohibits such action.

3) There is at this time no U.N. " HAZMAT " body. By this I mean no resolution created charter body for this task. I also fail to see how a couple of people in haz-chem gear are going to plug a sinking oil tanker. It will do nothing. You should rather be looking at strong integrity seals on equipment and tanks,

4) Might I also add there is already a proposal banning single hulled tankers, which does away with alot of environmental damage potential.

5) And why just oil any-way ? There are other oil based products of equal " danger " on the high sea ...

6) Oh, and even the idea of taxing the auto-industry is foolish, is petroleum companies or specialist shipping lines who ship it about, th auto-industry only makes a product that in future may require oil or a petroleum product ... sheesh ...

Thats all at this time ...

All tankers DO carry HAZMAT (Hazerdous Matterial) trained personel, heck, ALL civilian merchantmen are trained in hazmat by anyway...

Hey the less oil leaks the better.

2.3 Trillion what? While the proposition obviously has merit, where would this 2.3 Trillion come from, the U.N. has no financing, is incapable of imposing tax, and relies souly upon what member nations themselves decide to give it.... And why tax the automotive industry? (not that the UN can do this, since by resolution they cannot impose tax [ this would be a repeal, and therefore against the rules of resolutions at present]) They have no direct connections with the Oil industry, besides making a product that uses oil as fuel, why wouldn't oil heating companies, the comercial air industry, as well as the plethora of other industries that equally rely upon oil based products to drive their industries?

And the banning of single-hulled tankers removed all but a few catastrophic situations of ocean-going oil spills. (The remaining would not be easily cleanable even by a whole nation of HAZMAT personnel).

In the end, my review of this proposal is as follows...

1.) It shows a bias bassed on ignorance to a singly industry...
2.) It seeks to impose a tax, a violation of the UN Resolution banning the U.N. from imposing tax...
3.) It seeks to give money away the UN does not possess (2.3 trillion) Without any stipulations as to how they would aquire said funds in the first place.

4.) Lastly, in conjuction with the previous remarks, it is poorly thought out and researched (Not that that ever necessarily stopped resolutions, (sic,) the Abortion Rights resolution).
