Freedom of the Press Revamped (Please Endorse!)

Description: Due to an earlier UN resolution under the name of "Freedom of Press" allowing an almost unchecked freedoms for all media types, this article wishes to restrict these freedoms to some extent.

1. NULIFIES the earlier document to prevent the media from taking advantage of not only their host nation, but of other nations as well.

2. Nations MAY ALLOW international media to enter their nation and report. The host nation may also determine how much the international media has access to. In NO WAY does this force or even urge any nation to allow entrance to international media.

3. DENIES access to any media on any active battlefield. After a battle takes place the media may enter the area to give an after-action report. This ends the possibility of braodcasting current troop movements and information.

4. Governments MAY choose to fund media services, but are not required to.

5. ALL media agencies are REQUIRED to have two branches, national and international. Each branch will have seperate, but similar channels, periodicals, web pages, etc. This is to allow the international news to leave the nation freely, while national issues may be shown only in the respective nation, therefore lowering, but not ending, the chance for international embarrassment on a national issue, while still allowing the citezins of the nation to be educated and informed.

6. ALL Nations have the right to deny access to the press on any issue, but accept that in doing so, it may cause internal unrest. Reap What You Sow.

7.ALL Nations have the right to cancel the ability of a certain agency or group of agencies to broadcast freely, if they have violated National laws regarding privacy in specific, but any National law as well.

Author's Note: I understand that some of the issues discussed above are not in-line with some nation's beliefs. THIS IS ONLY A STEPPING STONE. I submit this now to immedeately counter and end the previous UN proposal. In the future, another may come up with a better proposal. That is perfectly fine, and encouraged. This is only a temporary solution, unless everyone agrees completely with it.

OOC: Everyone please endorse this as I know many people are in stark disagreement with the previous proposal.

Actually, at time of writing, the proposal is still on the floor for general voting by all members, though the current numbers do show the likely trend it will pass, I admit.

1. NULIFIES the earlier document to prevent the media from taking advantage of not only their host nation, but of other nations as well.

Nope, because that wording would mean a repeal, which is a no-no. I suggest you find another way to explain your intentions more clearly, and with-out clear conflicting language.

I really don't have the time right now to come back and cross check your work with the resolution-to-be, so this post can be considered a place-holder until then. Probably later today some time.

Ah I see......

Again, I did state that this wouldn't be perfect. This is only to better the situation for now, untill a full and real document can be made that solves most, if not all, of the problems.

No, you don't see. If my UN resolution passes, which it most likely will, this proposal once submitted constitutes an AMENDMENT to "Freedom of Press" and is against the rules...

Here it is for yourself:

7. Repeals and Amendments
This is mentioned in the Game Mechanics section, but since people keep doing it I'm making it more emphasised - you may NOT submit proposals that seek to repeal or amend earlier resolutions.
